2.0.2 update to k2 - Page 4

ok, somehow it's all better... when i left it (2hrs ago) i had put it in sleep mode, still showing one of *my* screenshots. just now, i picked it up and it's showing one of *their* screenshots... navigate to settings, and yay, the hack is not listed. will upgrade i guess and then put the screen hack back on.

mee no understandy

UPDATE: it's all good now, but me still no understandy WHY TF we don't get a heads up or "hay, you want this?" kind of notice before an autoupdate. anyway.

Which version of the screensaver hack did you have? I'm assuming a lot of the people who got autoupdated only had screensaver hack .1 or .2 not the .3.

The reason is because you never ran the Screen Saver Restore bin. You copied it to your K2, but you never performed an update, you restarted instead. Next time go to settings and select "Update..." instead of "Restart".

However, since the Screen Saver Hack bin (and the restore bin) are masquerading as OTA update files, your K2 noticed the restore bin (after it had been in sleep mode for 10 minutes) and automatically ran it and "updated" your K2 and removed the hack.

I can confirm that if you restore the old screensavers before updating to 2.0.2, you can then use the custom screen savers 0.3 and it'll work fine.

Just install each bin file in sequence and you'll be fine.

You don't have to. 2.0 can be updated directly to 2.0.2.

Hello Daffy4U,
I have two Kindle 2's side by side. One has 2.0.1 and the other has 2.0.2. I can't tell the difference. There may be a slight speed increase in page refresh on 2.0.2.

...I don't think you actually can. If you put the old firmware in the root directory and select update, it ignores it? (that's a badly worded question...)

...especially if you have manga/comics in the pictures folder you can see the working partial refresh that I found is finally working.

I see it, too. Since I don't read much with illustrations, that part doesn't bother me, but the text half hesitation before crispness may bother me over time.

While I was one who did have the ghosting issue, that was easily dealt with by using the Alt-G whenever I brought it out of sleep. This will take a bit of getting used to, if at all.

I'd be interested to see if we can go back to 2.01...
