Kindle Firmware 5.12.5

I dislike 5.21.4. I hate the new options under Aa. I can not get the line spacing right. It looks too wide even onthe minimal spacing option. So annoyed. Glad I moved most of my purchases to KOBO

I don't think the actual options have changed with either 5.12.4 or 5.12.5. Or have they? They just moved them into another menu. The actual stuff looks the same as before to me.

The new Aa menu won't appear with wifi off. I updated my Voyage manually to 5.12.4 weeks ago and still the same old menu (wifi has been off the entire time). As there's nothing worthwile in the new menu, I'll leave it as it is and am not going to update my Oases at all.

I think that unless Amazon comes out with a statement as to why there is no 5.12.5 for the PW3 and also says that there will eventually be a new firmware for the PW3 that the PW3 has been end-of-lifed by Amazon.

If this really is Amazon EOLing the PW3, the only time you'll get a new firmware is to update it so it can connect to Amazon to download eBooks.

Hi. I was also expecting 5.12.5 for my PW3 because on 5.12.4 I experience some kind of weirdness in the page change, it's kind of slower and with more ghosting than in previous versions. No battery drain problems though.

The current status of PW3 is incomprehensible, 5.12.4 announced on the download page but not available when many of us have already updated to it by OTA... I hope some explanation from Amazon

Amazon removed 5.12.4 from download due to some problems with it yet they forgot to remove it from OTA download so a lot of people ended up with 5.12.4 when they should not have. Now the problem is that PW3 owners who have 5.12.4 cannot get rid of it since Amazon is not releasing 5.12.5 for the PW3.

One thing you can do is call Amazon and ask what's going on with the PW3 and 5.12.5.

While you're on the phone with them, ask them for their keys so we can sign older firmwares for downgrading ;-)

Also the popup is more than half a 300 dpi screen. The slide switch style check boxes are the WORST GUI design ever invented, apart from scroll bars that are only visible on hover.
Also using scroll bars as a GUI element on Kindles and Kobo is stupid. A pair of up/down arrows.
The Contents page has been dreadful to navigate for several FW versions

Now Reading options under settings has only
Page Refresh
Public Notes
Vocabulary Builder.
It mangages also to have slide switches instead of check boxes, but a different style to those on Aa page.

It's like an early prototype. I've managed SW / HW groups. I'd fail this.

Privacy is buried in Advanced Options. You can't see what state it is without connecting. The Advertising on Home Screen is also "hidden" there.

Yet on the Sort menu of the Home page (without advert), they manage to use ticks for selected. But I think those are actually "Radio button" selection GUI elements, using a sort of check box style.

Win10, Android, Kobo, Kindle seem to have thrown away everything learnt about GUI design since 1975 and dreamed up ambiguous flat outline graphics with a tenuous connection to the actual usage.

The interface is a mess. If something is a global setting, especially rarely changed it should be in the top level all settings.
There should be TWO Aa menus:
1) A global default.
2) a per book
It should ONLY have Font Face, size, line spacing and margins. Perhaps have themes shared to both.
Also why the stupid large minimum margin compared to every thing else?

Do they test any of this with properly chosen subjects before release?

They are going one step forward and two backwards on each release.

Also the update and mysterious enable later is just lazy testing or abusing the users. As is never being able to step back.
Amazon are not renting these. They sell them.
