Do you have a valid adobe-id?

What do you use for the acsm-file? (Typically one would use Adobe Digital Edition (ADE). Download from adobe.com.)

Make sure you only use one and the same adobe-id on your Kobo as you do for ADE or similiar.

The acsm is a token that is processed by Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) to download the actual book.

You need to ensure your Kobo has been registered with the same Adobe ID as ADE is registered with.

Do make sure though that you've created a permanent ID in ADE and not taken the option to create an ID just associated with that install of ADE. (Sorry I'm not describing this too well, and currently don't have access to ADE on a PC).

How does one register a Kobo without using ADE (so as to no need to install ADE past 2.0.1)?

I did not try, I use the 4.5, but I think that the instructions on Kobo site will work for each version of ADE. So no need to use the last ADE version. And as far as I know there is no way to register a Kobo in ADE without using ADE itself.

For example I found instructions for a very aged ADE version

Actually, what I've done for a rather long time now is to recycle the activation.xml file from the .adobe-digital-editions directory on the Kobo ereader. It saves running out of activations and having to beg Adobe to add some more to your account. The device.xml file in the same directory should be left alone.

Connect your Kobo to your computer, run ADE. In the left column, you should see Devices with KoboeReader under it. On the gearwheel dropdown, see if Authorize device is greyed out. If not click on it and authorize your Kobo. Once this is done, you can right click on an item in your library, Copy to computer/device and select KoboeReader.

My personal preference is to import non-library books into calibre stripping the DRM and using calibre to clean up the metadata, etc. before sending them to my Kobo. The not stripping DRM from library loans is a personal quirk -- I don't 'own' them so removing the DRM isn't right.

When I try to study Adobe pages and perhaps ask something they say they have send me mail. I must check it before I can visit their pages. But no mail has never arrived. So it is impossible for me even visit Adobe helppages!

Errata: Why do You need to receive a mail to discover how to create an ADE id, to authorize You PC and to authorize Your Kobo?

Correction: Adobe effectively sent to me an email: " Dear Customer, you recently created an Adobe ID. The Adobe ID is .... (my email). To confirm your email address, click on this link: ..."

Did You check if the mail is finished in the spam? It is the first thing I can think. Or may be also that the email You wrote was not correct.

At worst get a new email address and create another ADE id with it and see what happens.

To create a ADE id and authorize Your PC:

And to authorize Your Kobo:

http://prod-www.kobobooks.com/ade

Finally I suceeded to move to Kobo. But I was to contact Adobe via Tor. Via Firefox it is mpossible. Also via Chrome. Problem with Adobe via Firefox continues. There is never any "verify" mail. But from ADE to Kobo works.Does contact to Firefox help??

Perhaps your need to use Tor to contact Adobe might be blamed on the country you are living in given that one of Tor's raisons d'être is to bypass that type of blocking and nothing to do with Firefox or Chrome.

There is no problem contacting Adobe via Firefox. Any such problem is your ISP.
