The rate of new covid-19 cases peaked back on the 14th, the number of new cases was down to 260 on the 23rd. Apparently, some counties report new cases and deaths in batches, which explains why the worldometers site has Georgia data with a lot of peaks and valleys. The Georgia site, assigned the new cases and deaths to the day they occurred, not when they were reported like the worldometers site. So sometimes it takes several days to get the real figures for a particular day.

While I probably wouldn't have picked some of the businesses Kemp did, it does strike me as time to stick the toe in the water and see what happens. A lot of people won't open even if they can, and a lot of people are going to stay at home, it's their choice. That's a good thing. I personally have no plans to go get a hair cut or eat in a restaurant this week, but I'm more than happy to let other people do so. I'm sure it will take a week or two to get the kinks worked out. We will see.

They haven't peaked down here. Between April 2nd and April 27th we have more than doubled in cases.

At the simplest level, if other people are selfishly picking up the virus through failing to self-isolate, then the virus is going to be more prevalent in places where people need to go (shops etc..).

It would be lovely to believe that all the variables are under your control, unfortunately, even a second's thought makes it obvious that isn't so.

The virus is out and about. The virus is not being controlled, people are being controlled. You know what to do, you can stay home and wear protective gear when you do go out. If any of your family is not doing the same, stay away from them. If someone who lives in your home is not obeying your rules, make them leave. If you live in someones home that does not isolate to your liking, you should leave. This is totally within your power to live the way you want. If you get it or not depends on you.

When I hear people criticize others for being outside, what I really hear is someone who fears becoming ill and wants to stay inside, but doesn't want to look out the window and see people living normally. Who is being selfish here?

Isolate those who are at high risk for poor outcome. Everyone else can make up their own mind. No one healthy should be forcefully isolated.

I did read about her. That's where the asymptomatic came from. Where did the time go? That was about 50 years ago that I wrote a report on her in school.

Even at risk people who are staying home for social distancing need to go out at times to get food, prescription refills, hygiene products, etc. The smart ones wear masks correctly, plan their outings carefully and use disinfectant wipes on carts and surfaces as appropriate. What I just said presumes that they have the financial resources to buy wipes, masks, sanitizers and have private transportation. Me, I’m fortunate enough that I can stay at home and never have to go out but I am very aware that many cannot afford a delivery lifestyle and didn’t have the resources to panic buy large quantities of supplies or have family to help them. Also, I am aware that every delivery I get has put someone else at risk.

IMO, the only reason the death numbers look as good as they do in Florida is that enough of us who are over 65 are not willfully ignorant and have sufficient financial resources so that by the beginning of March we had seen the writing on the wall, had already made or were making preparations and already distancing. Hopefully we are also all stepping up just like after other natural disasters to help out our fellow seniors and other Floridians who are having a much more difficult time.

I did go out last week for a drive to drop off materials for making masks (left them on a porch). Then took a scenic drive and went to the cemetery to visit my husband. The best thing I can do is to stay well and not increase the burden on my family and community.

Yes. I think it's perfectly acceptable to ASK people to shelter in place indefinitely. To limit their contact with others, and to limit their themselves to essential trips. And I think it's quite normal for reasonably intelligent people to see the wisdom of such requests and not resort to inaccurate and hyperbolic comparisons to "confinement" or "imprisonment" when the truth is much more mundane and reasonable than what your petulant idealism wants to try and blow it all up into.

Yup, everyone is a "Typhoid Mary" just like everyone is a THIEF; otherwise there won't be anything as DRM or "copy protection" on products; no proof needed.

How does one define "healthy" for a person? Anyway, the shelter in place also include the need to essential service like groceries & does not mean a shutdown like being in prison. Can anyone guarantee that they do not carry any bacteria, germs virus that will negatively affect other people? Got anything for proof each time one is near another person?

If the economy does not get restarted soon, we may go back to food stamp rationing like in WWII as the food processing plants appear to begin closing & farmers destroy crops as there is no one to sell the products to.

Of course, we all can wait the 12 months that Bill Gates claim he will have the vaccine available.......
