Note 2: how to push articles

Hi all,

I just purchased an Onyx Boox Note2 (and loving it)

I am missing very much the 'Push to Kindle' functionality that pushes HTML pages to Kindle devices. I was using it from my PC, android phone, ...

Can I make this functionality to push articles (mostly HTML) to my Note 2?

Thanks

You can use send2boox, using website push.boox. You need to sign in with email, but is simple enough. It works fine, but you end up copying the webpage address and pasting it into the push.boox field. A bit long winded, particularly as it takes a while for the push.boox page to open initially (based in China perhaps?). I have therefore resorted to other techniques.
1. Install Kindle app on the Boox device. You can then find its specific kindle address (unique for your device). Then use that in send to kindle or push to kindle apps on your phone tablet or pc. The files eventually appear on your device in the kindle folder. You can open these directly in the standard boox reader, or open the kindle app and read from there.
2. Use PrintWhatYouLike.com. I love this as you can create "ebooks" from multiple web pages with a tiny bit of copy and paste. Anyway once you've used this to remove adverts, side columns, images or whatever you don't need, save it as either pdf, or html (my preferred option). Transfer to boox device and open directly in their reader.

I haven't tried other services, but Pocket works great with my Nova and has extensions for the major browsers - just right-click on url of any article you want to save to your reader or click an icon in toolbar if the article already in your browser window.

I just explored a bit 'pocket' and here is my feedback compared to 'send-to-kindle':
- Google associates with your account everything you read and are interested in
- Push-to-kindle creates ebooks, i.e. you can read them flipping pages left/right. Whereas in pocket, it is a text document that you need to scroll up and down (not ideal for a reader/e-ink display)
- Push to Kindle actually downloads the article to your device as e-book. So I have built my whole library like this. Whereas with pocket it is a paying service.

Please let me know if there are workarounds for my points.

There is now a new app, the BOOX Assistant - https://www.boox.com/boox-assistant.

This, among other things let you push a file or a URL to the reader. If a URL is pushed, it will push an ePub of the page (images don't seem to come across, though).

Thanks, I tried this, but it does not seem to bring it to my library.
Does it store the items in a particular folder?
Is there a way to force the refresh?

Did you see the notification on the reader as it was pushed? There should have been one. The pushed content ends up in a "Push" directory at the top level of the storage. In the app, does it say that your reader is "bound"?

Yes, the device seems 'bound' in the app.
However, I do not see anything in the 'push' folder.
Is there a way to turn synchronization on? (maybe I accidentally turned it off?)

When you did the push, did you see a notification icon appear on the reader? Another thing that I believe I had to do is to log in with my email address on both the reader (for the Onyx account) and in the assistant app. At first I was using my phone to log in and IIRC the pushing didn't seem to work.

No, there is no notification icon when I push. I think this is the problem.
I have opened an issue with Onyx (who are pretty responsive).
Lets see if they resolve it.
