PS. Did someone disable the Youtube videos? I can't seem to get it working anymore

And as to not posting videos, I've discovered some great stuff so far that I hadn't heard of before. The video gives you a nice quick sample to see if you like the artist.

some youtube videos have the "embed" function disabled. the others should still work.

We bought a box-set of assorted DVDs (7 for $70, which in Oz is a very good deal, considering the content) and one of the movies in there is Buena Vista Social Club. I have to admit though that I am yet to watch it.

i envy you the "first time" experience with that film. it made me cry from joy when i saw it for the first time.

I'm listening to a streaming of 100 sample songs (thank you, NPR) from some of the artists who will be at the 2009 South by Southwest music festival in Austin beginning tomorrow. As it says at the NPR website, "Some of the music induced swooning, some of it induced sleepiness, and some of it made us want to pry out our eardrums and swallow them for safe keeping." A great mix of interesting stuff. I wish I was going.

The Loved One has left this morning for one of his overnight work-trips to Sydney, which means I can watch movies that he is unlikely to ever want to watch (eg. I recently watched half of Lost in Translation). Maybe I'll watch Buena Vista Social Club tonight.

i saw compay segundo in concert a few years ago. he was ancient (he told us his age, and it was impressive, although i can't remember what it was) but there was no stopping him. in between songs he told us stories about his life. amazing concert.

When he was in Paris giving this concert he was 80+ !!!

He explained in an interview that "technically, he'd been smoking cigars for 75 years because he used to light up the cigars for his grandmother when he was 5"...
