Found the problem - not the firewall. I installed virtualbox and the network driver creates a proxy that confused the kindle prog. Weird. So just disabled the network driver bye open network & internet settings - change adapter settings and disable virtual host only adapter. Very strange. And no the kindle prog wasn't using a proxy either...

I run Calibre 4.13 on a MacBook Pro 2017 13" with MacOS Catalina 10.15.4. I got the book ("I maestri invisibili", by Igor Sibaldi) from Amazon's Kindle store but the plugin in Calibre can't de-drm it

I would suggest you read the first messages in this thread. It seems rather likely that your Mac did not have an early enough version of Kindle for Mac to allow books to be downloaded as AZW (mobi or azw3) so you are downloading a KFX. You might also want to check out the link to the FAQs on Apprentice Harper's GitHub site shown in the output you posted. Pay special attention to the section titled A Recent Change to Kindle for PC/Kindle for Mac.

Unfortunately, bertofa is running Catalina, which requires K4Mac 1.25 or later.

It may be too late since Catalina is already installed, but if you have backups of older versions, you might be able to get it working. See: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...&postcount=508

It worked. The only difference was I didn't need to search for "the proper folder containing the downloaded file". After step 3 a dialog box popped up who asked me if I wanted to use Caliber to open the file.

Super happy that whatever steps we took to get 1.26.1 working in Catalina transferred over in Time Machine. Maybe that points to a better solution in the future?

As an update to this update, K4M is still downloading AZW files. But they are now DRM-protected and won't open in Calibre.

I don't know what changed. This was working two months ago, and I was able to switch between several accounts with no issue. No longer working with any account

AZW could still be KFX. Do you also see .res and .md files? Perhaps renderer-test got re-enabled?

I had failure to convert today for the first time. It seems that Kindle for PC updated itself, even though the checkbox to automatically update was not checked. Not sure how that happens, as it doesn't seem like they could change the behavior of an existing app.

Mine didn't update. Still on 1.26.1. But maybe the AZW files that download have been modified?

That would mean the books were KFX format. So it's not that renderer-test got re-enabled. Somehow your key must have changed. If you've had to log in again, that's usually a sign that the app is acting like it's a brand new installation with a different key.
