My Top 5 Hot Dogs

All of my hot dogs start out with the same base ingredients. From there, I add the extras.

Base Hot Dog = toasted bun, grilled hot dog, yellow mustard, raw onions

1. base + bacon + cheddar cheese
   
2. base only
   
3. base + bacon + grilled mushrooms + Swiss cheese + Dijon mustard (no yellow mustard)
   
4. base + sauerkraut + Swiss cheese + Dijon mustard (no yellow mustard)
   
5. base + chili + cheddar cheese

I love a good hot dog, either Nathan's brand or Hebrew National.

Yellow mustard and white diced onions. (that have a little sugar on them)

Ballpark mustard if we are at an Indians game. Sometimes coney sauce (no meat), or sloppy joe on top, and with that some diced hot pepper rings.

There are a couple of local ice cream stands that make great foot long coneys. They don't open until May usually, one of them opened early due to the take out only rules of Stay at Home because of covid19.

If grilling or pan frying at home, nice and charred.

Not sure about corn dogs since they are deep fried with cornmeal rather than "sandwiched" between a couple slices (or bun sides) of bread. But I definitely think both are comfort food!

My favorite fast food hot dog is Costco's $1.50 all-beef 1/4 lb hot dog and 20 oz soda (w/ refill) deal. Can't beat the taste or the price anywhere.

I add mustard and onions to my dog, and sometimes sauerkraut.

Hot dogs are not sausage, nor are they intended to be, or marketed as such. Both have some of the most nasty meats inside, stuff most would never eat if it wasn’t ground up and hidden in a casing, But they are not the same thing at all. I’m not sure if other parts of the world eat American style hot dogs, but we also have more types of sausages here than I can enumerate. But we never equate hot dogs with sausage. They are considered two different things.
