Want More Models With Inverted Text Capability
Currently only the PW4 and the Oasis 2 and 3 have inverted text (white text & black background) capability. I want a firmware update which gives that capability to all Kindles back to the PW3 and Voyage, basically for all Kindles that can be updated to use the current 5.12.4 firmware. Only if there is a hardware limitation preventing it should all the relatively recent models not have this capability IMO.

All of those can do it (badly, but they can) [c.f., the tail end of this thread].
What's special about the PW4 and the KOA2/KOA3 is that they have (multiple) waveform modes tailored to white-on-black, which helps avoiding ghosting like crazy, as is usually the case with white-on-black. On top of that, the Oases also have fancy frontlight shenanigans that prevent you from going blind each time the screen flashes for a full update. TL;DR: Yeah, there are real hardware limitations to doing it "right" (or at least "less badly"). That's why the "feature" is hidden behind a hidden dev menu on Kobo, for instance. I would like the Voyage to get the Oasis software's ability to disable the touchscreen and go to hardware page turning only.
(you put it to sleep and wake it back up and all is back to normal) |

@rcentros: Even with "classic" waveforms, some (earlier) devices behave differently when flashing in nightmode.
You've probably noticed that a Kobo will do a weird stuttery double-flash, exacerbating the "agh, my eyes" issue mentioned above. That never happened on Wario Kindles (basically anything between the PW2 and the PW3 included): they flash properly (i.e., once, still blindingly bright, but less annoyingly so).
