No, it causes high battery drain on the KOA2 in bright environments.

The original Oasis didn’t have the auto light sensor. I remember thinking this was strange at the time as they were trying to position it as the highest-specced device but they left this off, whereas the Voyage had it.

I’m going to email customer service and ask them to ask the kindle team to make book covers available as a screen saver, maybe some other people would like to join in? I know most of us want this, and we finally got our wish to be able to side-load fonts, so I actually think they may provide cover screensavers at some point. I’m an optimist.

I’m assuming the KOA3 will never be jailbreakable, and the screensaver issue is the only reason I would jailbreak.

The manual for the Oasis 3 is linked from its product page. The manual does indeed mention being able to invert the screen.

It would have been very surprising to have this feature be missing. It's not a function of the lighting system.

Eh, to some extent, the "tone down the frontlight during flashes" trick does tie back into the FL .

So does anyone confirm it is still true today?

Is it NOT possible to turn backlight off when using "invert black and white" mode on the Kindle Oasis 3?

That is correct. I just tried it with my Oasis2 and my wife's Oasis3, both with 5.12.4. When inverted black and white, even at 0 the light will not turn completely off no matter where the warm setting is. Both the Oasis 2 and 3 don't have the new Aa settings yet, but I very much doubt the light can be turned off then. In normal mode O means off, even if the warm setting is anywhere else.

That makes sense, given that nightmode co-opts the frontlight control in order to do... stuff to alleviate the blinding flashes, and that this appears to be specific the the Oasis 2 & 3 .

(Which begs the question of what exactly happens on the PW4, which does also support fancy nightmode...).

The KOA2 flashed with at least the first two firmwares. Mine still does because it is still at the second.
