The lone Amazon US review seems to agree.

This looks to be using the original Haitian zombie idea, not the Romero ghouls.

Right. I'm not saying the book predates Romero. But the book is about the older Caribbean zombie rather than the Romero ones (though the current synopsis seems to want to fool you there).

The second Amazon US reviewer quotes the back of the older edition:
