If it does mess with KindleFIXed files, saving the bin file for 2.0.1 might be a good idea so we can roll back (if possible).

INSTALLED AND TESTED
Works w/ Kindlefixed files.
Also installed the Kindle2 screensaver hack (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...5&postcount=53) and it worked also.

NOTE: make sure to backup your documents folder (and any other necessary data you may have) before making the update. If I hadn't made the backup, I may have lost data and had to find it all again. Kindle 2.0.2 update would NOT install until I ran "Update_kindle2_restore_default_screen_savers. bin" and after I ran it, the USB connectivity would not work correctly. "I Reset to Factory Defaults" to get it back to a working 2.0.1 and then updated to 2.0.2

Hope this was helpful

P.S. didn't notice anything different, except maybe faster page turns? I know that sounds weird, b/c still the same processor, but it does seem that way.

And if this one doesn't answer to your satisfaction, do it again.

There have been posts about getting different answers from different personnel.

Have a rep and he says that the update fixes some "minor glitches" in the K2.

Pressing for specifics....

Ok... No specifics... but when asked the rep did tell me that it has NOTHING to do with the Text-to-Speech feature.

I guess unless you are able to talk to a programmer there will be no specifics.

P.S. I would also like to say that he assured me that there was nothing taken away and that the update was beneficial in nature.

So anyways.... my wireless is on... sucking up the battery... waiting for the manna from heaven that is the 2.0.2 update.

Just manually updated mine... took 1-2 minutes at most (I wasn't timing it) I was amuzed by the big "check mark" that appeared over the progress bar when it finished before it restarted. Anyhoo running the 2.0.2 (309510017) now

Uninstalled screen saver hack, update auto installed. Reinstalled screen saver hack. Everything ok.

Did you notice any difference in the page loads (it was most evident to me in turning pages on the Home list of books)

You don't need whispernet to purchase or load books from Amazon......just a computer.

I thought I bought the mainly for the whispernet feature, but have learned it ain so........
