snopes.com
For those of you not already familiar with Snopes (www.snopes.com), it is probably the best urban legend debunking website out there.
I live in Baton Rouge, and ONE DAY after I got an email about how our serial killer was luring women, snopes had already managed to debunk it. I routinely forward appropriate links to those well meaning friends who send me the latest email flotsum and jetsum. It is a truly great resource for anyone trying to cut down on the barage of email junk forwarded to us by those with the best of intentions of "saving Penny Brown." I have attached an .ixl for their "New" page. It makes for a fairly enormous file (976K here) if you include the photos. (240 K if you don't.) Even if you don't make a channel, I highly recommend the site. Maybe if we ask nicely, they would make a PDA friendly version of the news section...as if they aren't busy enough debunking myths! ![]() |
