Two different libraries are totally separated. Basically you have two databases you can access from one application. No overlap at all.

Thank you. Yes, that is pretty much my situation also, except that I find politics, philosophy, science, economy and history overlap in a lot of cases.
I will look into the portable version of calibre, and its tagging possiblities might help me.
This is not so urgent though, as basically every week I get a few new audio books, and while most of them will be discarded, there are always a few that I actually want to listen to till the end.
I have always found walking the dog is a good opportunity ....

PS Is there a possibilty to de-activate these permanent captchas ?

I cannot find any calibre cookies to not delete them-----?

But 'we' doubt you need to do that. Either have one physical library with two virtual (subset) libraries, or two physical libraries.

One scenario for having multiple installs is because you need different global settings for different libraries. And the settings you want to vary are not covered by the JobSpy plugin's existing Library Specific Tweaks, and cannot be added as additional Library Specific Tweaks. But you'll never ever know if you don't ask the JS plugin developer to provide them. I suggested a change to one of his plugins yesterday morning, it was there when I got up the next morning.

Another situation might be because you want to run different versions of calibre, as I do via the Windows portable install:

Attachment 177856

I have them so I can respond to user issues on old versions.

Thank you I will look into the portable version, as soon as I have enough time for that. I still have not gotten around to sort in all my e-books

The point was, that it is NOT possible to install two calibre.
As I wrote, when I get around to it, I will try the portable version.

Why bother with two installs even if of portable. Just install calibre ONCE and then create TWO (or more) links on your desktop, each one starting calibre with a different library.

calibre --with-library "full path to a calibre library"

Give each one a descriptive label and you're all set

That will give one library with about 300GB to go through. Will that be useful and work in a reasonable timeframe?

Each Library is its own structure. The do not even need to be on the same LOCAL drive.
eg C:\users\Me\MainLib, U:\Userstuff\MusicLib

Think of Calibre as WORD. You don't do installs for PersonalDocs and another for BusinessDocs

The above mentioned shortcut was just a way to Launch direct to a Library.
Calibre has a quick switch menu for up to 5. You could just star Calibre as normal. Calibre will (RE)start on the last used library

The size of the format files makes no difference to catalogue browsing performance, calibre is a database application not a file system walker.

I can browse, sort, search etc my 812GB 4,300 'book' audio video library, and my 62GB 150,000 'book' articles library, just as fast as I can do the same with my 612MB 66 book Test library.

As BR said: Calibre is a DB that contains what you can see on the home screen (all the columns + comments) and it has the location-ID of the book and cover files. Those are only in the OS filesystem, not the DB. So THEIR size does not affect Calibre. There are specific TASKS that do touch files. Those may take time to run.

If you can do a batch of books that get the SAME tag(s):

Right click Adding Books: Adding Actions: Tags to apply when adding: <Set the tags that they have in common>

Change as often as needed. Blank it when done

If its possible I can do that, but too many are special medical books with particular tags, but there is no hurry
