Hisense A6L (not A6), the best e-reader for foreign ebooks?

It says here:

"Sometimes when you use the Google Play store it may ..."

Okay. Does this mean it usually works just fine, but sometimes ...

I have only seen A6 threads, hence I made a A6L thread.

23 seconds into this video you can see the Google Play icon.

Has anyone bought the Hisense A6L?

I think it may be ideal for ebooks in foreign languages. So, you read the book on the eink side, and when there's a new word you gotta understand and learn you flip the phone and there you have your favorite dictionary.

No need for such an approach. Instead, just use a reading app like Moon+ Reader and the ColorDict or the GoldenDict app.

In the settings of Moon+ Reader, you can have it use either ColorDict or GoldenDict to look up whatever text you select when reading. You can also choose what happens on a long press. I usually have it automatically open another dictionary app.

This is a very efficient method which works exceptionally well with my A5. Currently, I'm reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in Chinese. When I click on a character or phrase that I am unfamiliar with, it looks for the text in all the dictionaries I have installed in GoldenDict. Some are Chinese-Chinese Dictionaries. Others are Chinese-English dictionaries.

Additionally, I have the e-ink button on the A5 set to open a different Chinese dictionary app on a long press of the button. So I can copy the selected text, then paste it into that other app. Works very well.

On top of that, I use a different reading app with a copy of the book in English open to where I am in the Chinese text. That way, if there is something I really cannot figure out with the help of dictionaries, I can check the Chinese translation against the English. Very useful having two different reading apps open at the same time. One can seamlessly jump between them.

The A5 is such a wonderful tool for language study. Having downloaded the appropriate language packs, I can also have the TTS engine read the text aloud while I follow along. I wish I had such a tool when I was in university. I spent thousands of hours with my head buried in various paper dictionaries which I also had to lug about.

So no need for the dual screen. The single screen A5 works just fine for language study. And I find it much easier to select text on it than on my Onyx devices even though they are much larger.

Moon reader's integration with an offline dictionary is fantastic. Also being able to directly google, or wiki search is so under rated

If this is for fun, I'm lovin' it. I'm reading it in German now. (German is a foreign language of mine).

If if wouldn't be super hassle for you, could you like do a YouTube of your way of using the e-ink while reading?

You don't have to if it's a bother, but gee it would be interesting to see your approach live.

It's just one thing that I worry about, and that is for every word I come across that I don't know, I want to slap it into my flashcard app, so that I'll don't forget it. So I've been swapping between FBreader and a dictionary in Chrome and pasting the chrome dictionary term and sentence into Quizlet. If there were some automatic way of exporting all the words I've looked up, after my reading session, that would solve everything. Make it possible to just read without swapping apps, and then afterwards reap the reward, like 40-50 new words directly into my flashcard app.

It's just for fun. As a way to maintain my language skills. I read one book in Chinese. The next book I read in Japanese. And then once I have finished the series, I'll start all over starting with the opposite language. It takes quite a while because sometimes I have to put such reading aside to concentrate on work.

Sorry, I don't even have a YouTube account. Also, at the moment, I'm rather swamped with learning how to work online from home. My week has suddenly just become much longer than it was before even though I no longer have to commute. But I'm not complaining. At least I still have a job.

However, if I ever do have some extra time, I may give it a go and see if I can post it somewhere.

I wonder if there is some kind of dictionary app which might simplify things for you. For Chinese, one of the apps which I particularly like is Hanping Pro. Apparently, there is a feature where it can add flashcards of any of my starred words to a flashcard app called AnkiDroid. I haven't installed AnkiDroid so I can't test it out, but it might be worth looking into. It might even work with the dictionary you are using.

You do that for fun? I don't know you, but I love you (big laughs).

We're all under pressure now, and I completely understand that you ain't got time for a YT vid.

AnkiDroid? Wow. That'd be magic. It's far and away the best flashcard app, imo. If there were a way to slap words I look up into that, that'd really make language learning super smooth.

Did you find out if Google Play Services are, or can be installed? I'm thinking of buying the A6L dual screen for my daily phone.

I suspect the hardrest.info site is just SEO whacking the A6L searchterm and copy pasting info from a million other phone models. In short, that site is misleading.

I have the a6L (with Google Play installed). It is good but has some issues compared with my old A2 Pro.

The issues first:

Chromecast -- For youtube its is good. For Google Home (or straight casting) it is bad. It casts but also plays the sound on the phone which is quite annoying (and you can't mute it without muting the sound on the TV). (I guess you can plug in some headphones...

Had to install an old version of Google Maps (10.3 or whatever from 2019). Latest version causes repeated crashes...

Had to install an old version of Radio.com. Latest version crashes over and over...

The e-ink launcher seems pointless as it does not give a lock screen option for the display (so we can have similar fuction to the Yota 3+).

The lock screen has 4 options, most of which are pointless to english speakers (word of the day for Chinese learning english, Chinese poems, etc. Two lockscreens are ok (the ones with wallpaper options.

The good:

Face unlock for both sides of the phone. Dual lens camera on the inkside 24mp is actually pretty good. The extra ink unlock button is nice I guess. The phone is much snappier than the Yota 3. The Yota 3+ is sluggish and has its own issues / strengths. Google Play works mostly well after installing it using the Google Calendar method.

I'm interested in getting my hands on an A6 with Google Play (from Russia). Anyone that can help with that, please let me know. Alternately, I'll settle for a cheap used version from China or a new version from China if the price decreases.

Reflective screens are never an issue for me as I can just order Iphone Matte screens and modify as needed.

I like the two screen option over the e-ink only options as the e-ink only option is not snappy enough for me as a continuous use option. It's nice to have 2 tablets in one. Smartphone software is still mainly designed for snappy AMOLED screens.
