Firmware update 5.12.4

I have noticed that with this update my 2 kindles, a Kindle Oasis 2017 and a PW 2 last much less than before, but really much much less. And I am not reading more than before, even with the Corona Virus around. I need to recharge every few days, whereas prior to the update it was about 2 weeks.
It could be that the devices and their batteries are getting older, but it was a remarkable difference.
Anybody noticed the same ? I could not find any other denouncing this issue.
Can survive with it, of course, just annoying.

It might be some background indexing, but I do not remember how to check for it, if still possible.

Yes. When I picked up my 2017 Oasis last night, I noticed that the battery had run down more than expected given the time and amount read since last charge. Checked the device info and saw that I had been upgraded to 5.12.4 sometime in the past day.

Obviously some power was used in the update process. I recharged to 100%, and we'll see how the battery goes from here.

Search for '.' (period). In Text In Books, if it is still indexing, it will have 'Items Not Yet Indexed (x)' where x is number of books to be indexed. Otherwise, Text In Books will be greyed out (no results).

While I was playing with my Paperwhite, it said 'please wait...updating fonts' and then put up a progress bar for a minute or so. No idea which fonts it updated. And still don't have the new Aa menus.

@tomsem: Usually non-LGC fonts (e.g., CJK).

I've also noticed a faster battery drain on my Oasis 3 in the last week or so (though I downloaded 5.12.4 when it first became available about a month or so ago, so this is more recent).

I haven't updated my Kindles for quite a while and reading these reports about battery drain, probably won't this time either. Wifi will stay off.

I couldn't read a word of the Russian pictures, but to my eye it was the same features and settings just organized differently.

And that’s what Amazon said firmware 5.12.4 would bring :

«*Aa Menu: Over the next couple of weeks, you will see an updated Aa menu that makes it easier to access all font, layout and reading options without leaving your book*»

The real question is what other options there might be in the еще menu. My russian is a bit rusty, but basically what is shown here are the options that were before under Settings -> Reading Options -> Highlights & About This Book and Language Learning -> Word Wise. But.... there’s this mysterious sliding bar !

My expectation from looking at the firmware when it first came out is that the Aa menu would be reorganized and bring in things that were previously in the separate Settings menu.

The only new thing I saw there was a possible contrast setting with five choices.

Yes. And everything you mentioned in your first post shows up in the russian pictures except for the PinYin (but ... sliding bar !), and the cover-as-screensaver...

Come on Amazon ! Enable FW 5.12.4 worldwide already !

I did the check tonight, and there was no indexing running, but my battery was 30%. I cannot remember when I recharged it, but It seems a few days ago. I will do a test now, recharge it 100% and then I will see what happens
