I've been keeping an eye on this site I picked up from Kurzgesagt: https://ourworldindata.org/coronavir...ths-by-country
The rate that deaths double (the firmest statistic we have for now) does seem to be slowing in a lot of places, down from 2 days to 3 in the US. Hopefully it's a trend. |

I've not been much a Mike DeWine fan in the past, but I continue to be impressed by his willingness to make the hard decisions during this crisis. His willingness to trust the advice of his health experts and to take such an aggressive (and so early) tack against the spread of this thing is commendable in my opinion.

I hadn't seen that. I only briefly glanced at the exemptions. Definitely a little less commendable.

![]() Anyway, so far my sister isn't showing any symptoms. Oh and her husbands office gave him two weeks off with pay too, with pay. According to CDC guidelines he is at minimal risk for the virus, but people are running scared. The panic buying here has not abated either. Apache |

One thing that surprises me is that our local YMCA is still open it's regular hours. 24 hours a day except closed midnight Saturday til 12 PM Sunday. And they are busy. They are also about the only organization I have not gotten an email notice from concerning them and the Corona-19 Virus. All of my vendors all banks and stores, utilities and countless others have inundated me with Corona-19 Virus updates., but not the YMCA. I winder if the pools are open too. They probably are afraid that they might have to refund a couple of months of membership dues.

Our province just modified the law to allow booze to be delivered to your home by licensed providers (i.e. bars) as long as it was still in unopened containers (bottles, cans).

All of the private gyms have closed. Only the YMCA is still open.

Our YMCA's have been closed since the 16th.
The company my husband works for is "essential" so most of his work continues. He is working from home, but those working in the production area are having to go in. Not sure how they are dealing with the social distancing, but hubby says they have enough room to spread the workers out. Split shifts may happen also. The head of purchasing wants the buyers to contact all of their suppliers...my husband said he has hundreds. One company in California said they were shutting down, but the "essential" category has a domino affect, so those suppliers can also keep working. There is no slacking off because he is working from home, he is treating it exactly the same, and putting in the hours. Lots of stress, many many phone calls, he was worn out last night. What has happened to our investments has most likely pushed off his plan of retirement at the end of 2021. We were in good shape and on track before this happened. Discussion of downsizing into a condo has also been taken off the table. The house is paid for, we have no debt. So hunkered down here with no more talk of selling and moving. Could use some sunshine, it would be nice to be able to get outside for a bit. Family is all well, that's what really matters. Last edited by Deskisamess; 03-24-2020 at 11:57 AM. |

Generally I would think that as pregnancy isn't normally a life threatening condition that it would fit under the "Non-essential" umbrella. And there are various ways to avoid it, not that I want to get into a debate on the topic here. That would be better fit under the Politics/Religion forum.

It's not political at all. It's simply over the top stupidity and the pushing of agenda under the guise of "safety." The notion that taking a walk; or taking your ferret for a distemper shot; or getting your teeth cleaned; or picking up a six-pack of burgers and a case of beer from a carryout; or picking up a bucket of chicken and a bottle of wine at the store is somehow an "essential" exemption to the lockdown, but that a medical visit OF ANY KIND might not be is the height of hypocrisy and arrogance. Plain and simple. Nothing political about it.

One of the thing I love and appreciate about these forums is the lack of conversation about political issues, left vs. right ideologies, etc. If a right-leaning comment was made, it would be shouted down. I could push that button, but I won't.
This isn't the place for that convo. Please. |
