  Recorded in his home studio, TheBarn in western Massachusetts, Taylor tells the deeply personal story of his youth, which is entwined with the story of his family. What started as an idyllic tight unit soon became a family sent to different emotional corners—like a break shot in the game of pool, he says, when you slam the cue ball into the fifteen other balls and they all go flying off. By the time Taylor released his breakout second album in 1970, Sweet Baby James, he had seen the disintegration of his parents’ marriage and his family crumble in the aftermath. He had committed himself twice to a psychiatric hospital, battled depression, a heroin addiction, suffered a relapse, and traveled far away from the wood smoke and moonshine of the North Carolina landscapes in which he came of age. Despite it all, he was also on the cusp of superstardom and on his way to bringing light and joy to millions. He was 21.

I'm not able to download iTunes to my Chromebook, so I have no idea which books are in the list or how large it is. I'd appreciate it if someone with iTunes access could post more details about this offer. Thanks in advance.


Apple Books offers ‘stay at home’ collection of free read-alongs for kids, cozy mysteries, and audiobooks

Earlier today, the Apple Books app sent out a push notification offering a free Apple Book to users. The notification mentioned read-alongs for kids, cozy mysteries, and audiobooks for the whole family.

Most likely aimed at helping folks pass the time when much of the world is social distancing due to COVID-19, Apple is offering a wide-ranging collection of free titles in various genres. In browsing the section, I found several titles that I picked up for my kids and me. My family has gotten in the habit of listening to kid-friendly podcasts and audiobooks on the way to school, so I grabbed several titles for when our daily commute returns.

Maybe I’m missing something, but I don’t see any audiobooks. Also, the ebook selection is overwhelmingly public domain, salted with a few copyrighted books that I wouldn’t be surprised to learn were free elsewhere, but in any case are of no interest at all to me. Perhaps the audiobooks were in the kids section? I’ll take another look.

I was unable to talk Audible into giving me the $20 Amazon credit that they owed me, so I eventually gave up and took the $20 Audible credit, which since I don't listen to all that many audiobooks wasn't all that good for me.

But now I can get 3 Great Courses, which I DO like to listen to, for just a bit more than the $20 credit, and then end my membership before my March 28 roll-over date.

I love it when things seem to dovetail nicely .

I have good news to report - got on Chat today and received my $20 Amazon credit from the Audible Challenge; but not without a couple wrinkles (see Spoiler for details). Despite having to follow-up to get my reward, this was a definite WIN-WIN-WIN for me. Free 2 months Audible trial with 2 credits, 1 free month Audible Escape, 3 Rhys Bowen titles @ $5.95 and 4 Great Courses titles @ $6.95 in the two recent sales -- plus $5 Audible courtesy credit the first time I went on Chat to ask about the defunct tracker on the Audible Challenge. Am cancelling my Audible account now, as renewal is on March 28th.

I did have my info ready - the 5 titles that I had listened to and the email that I received on Feb 3 telling me I was one title away from completing the challenge, and my chat session where I was told the tracker was not working and they could not confirm which titles I had listened to (UNBELIEVABLE). While the agent Latisha was gone for some 10 minutes (checking the info) she came back to tell me that I was being given a code XXXXXXX to redeem for $20 on Amazon and that I would be transferred to an Amazon agent. Then I got transferred to Jody -- another Audible agent not Amazon, to whom I had to explain the whole thing again. Also I had tried to redeem the code as a gift card on Amazon and it did not work. She then went away for 5 minutes then came back and said -- forget about the code, I am applying the $20 promo directly to your Amazon account and BINGO, the code worked when I added a "SOLD AND SHIPPED BY AMAZON" item to my cart.
