That is being done here. The supermarkets have announced no "change of mind" returns to try to reduce the hoarding. I think they only started doing it in the last few days so I don't think it will have had much affect yet.

It would never occur to me to return products to a grocery store unless they were spoiled or defective. Who does that? Especially now when there is a possibility that wrappings or containers could be contaminated with virus. Publix is a Florida store but I have not heard of them having to deal with returns after hurricanes. Lowe’s and Home Depot usually will let people return unused generators and plywood after hurricanes.

I worry some people may have spent money preparing for long sheltering and now realize they will not have any money coming in for a protracted time. And I worry that some people do not have the money to prepare at all - just like in hurricane season. You can’t stock up on food, gas up the car, refill prescriptions, diapers, formula, sanitary products, etc, etc., if you don’t have any disposable income. Time to make another contribution to the food bank and the diaper bank.

One local maroon was complaining that Costco will not let him return his toilet paper, hand sanitizer, rice, etc. purchases. From the interview, he appeared to believe that money was going to lose it's value real soon now so he stocked up on trade goods by using his credit cards. Now that he is laid off, he needs his credit cards to pay for food, gas, etc. so he's rather upset that he is being penalized for preparing for the SHTF days ahead of us.

I saw a thread on reddit where someone was postulating that all of the states that have implemented lockdown are also states that have gun control. One of the responses was from someone whose state doesn't have gun control and he said that the gun stores there are doing a brisk business. So some people are getting ready for the SHTF days in a different way.

“The world is too much with us”
Despite the SHTF days to come, everyday life goes on.
I used to be calm in emergencies(icu nurse) but my stress level is soaring. Worried about family near ground zero in Washington, worried about my older sister living alone in Alabama, worried about my first responder son who lives 10 miles away from me. Worried about a grandson who moved to Brooklyn in Nov (all excited about his first job after graduation)which means he has been riding the subway to NYSE everyday. Worried about my son in MA who works in Boston, but at least his company instituted work from home last Sunday. His wife is a NP who as of tomorrow will be doing phone triage from home. Worried about grandchildren on spring break in MA and FL who don’t know when they will be able to return to school. All will be using on-line classes til notified otherwise. Life goes on...

And saw small news item that there’ll probably be no El Niño this year so they expect a MORE active Atlantic storm season, which starts June 1. Other news today, some local areas need rain and there is a 500 acre marsh fire in the county. Life goes on...

Tomorrow I’m going to turn off WiFi/cellular. Not read or watch any news and sit out side all day and try to think positive, happy, kind thoughts because I know that compared to many in the world, I have nothing to complain about. I’ll count my blessings one of which is that I can go outside at will and take a long walk without coming close to anybody. Another positive thing is I filed my taxes in Feb. and completed the census online today. (Are they really going to send census takers to homes that don’t respond?) Oh no, now I’ll have to worry about them.

Life goes on....

You can take that worry off your list, at least. Census field work has been suspended. Till April 1 at the moment, but they will re-evaluate and no doubt extend it at that time.

Tax filing has been extended to July 15th too. Of course business taxes had to be filed by March 15th so no extension there.

I filed my taxes back in Feb and completed my census online last week. Apparently, they are doing census online this time around, then sending workers to houses that didn't respond.

I'm not sure how one has defective TP, but I guess it's possible.

People do stupid stuff, especially when they panic and are emotional.

The US Government has been doing the census online for a few years now.

And this one was very easy and quick to complete on line, especially since I had only myself to enter. A couple of years ago I had to complete one of those community censuses that they do between the big ones. It asked for lots of info. If you don’t complete in one sitting, nothing is saved and you have to start over. That community census asked about toilets, number of toilets, sq ft of house, # of rms, income, ethnicity, age, education, occupations etc., etc. All that data gets published to benefit the community, business and local and state governments. I not sure which of those entities benefits the most from all that personal data.

As everyone can see, I couldn’t stay off line all day.
Text from Son in MA showing the snow on the ground and falling when he looked out the window while working from home.
I of course texted him back that it was 86F and low humidity here and that I had just received a text to limit water usage for non-essential things because of how dry it is.
My local son, off work today, texted that his pool temp was 73F
Walgreens texted that Tues morn 8-9 am will be for seniors only.
I did go outside and walk around and bird watch.
Text alert that Atlas V launch looks like a go for Thurs afternoon if weather
cooperates.

And life goes on.....

Yes it is easy, but you should see the economic census they send to businesses. It is due by April 21st and may take me a week to do.
It is supposed to be 91 here Thursday and Friday.

Can you complete the census on line over a week’s time and save your sessions?

I have seen some speculation that hot and humid weather helps stop the virus because the humidity makes the droplets containing virus heavier and they fall quicker so not where they can be breathed in. . Guess I should be wishing for high humidity along with the high temps.

I don't know about sessions, but they will time out. I filled out two censusi, and they both timed out. Once they timed out, I had to start all over again. This was on a tablet and PC. They are relatively short, depending on how many people live in the household.
