Hello -
I am curious if I might be able to get some suggestions on how to resolve a new issue I have noticed with my library. Or - offer a suggestion on how to better setup my library. Since using Calibre - I have always pointed my library to run off my iCloud storage. I use two MacBooks (work, home) and enjoy being able to access my Calibre library directly from each. I add something on one, and I am able to see it on the other the next time I log into the different Mac. Yesterday, I noticed that the files I added to my library Sunday night on my HOME computer hadn't appeared in my WORK computers library. After re-reunning the Wizard I was able to sync it. Today, I noticed more books added last night are not displaying on my WORK computer - I ran the Wizard but it didn't update the new files (and converted files). Any idea where the glitch might be? Thanks for any help! |

The glitch is your unwise decision to use cloud storage for calibre.
Have you not read any of the warnings, or the FAQ, or any 9f the stickies? Calibre in cloud will break. It usually does so unpredictably, and erratically, after an initial trouble free experience, because it is being run in an environment that it is not designed for. Move it to local storage before you corrupt it any more, then go read the hundreds of relevant threads..... You may get help repairing the damage once you have it out of cloud. You are unlikely to get help with debugging why your cloud solution cannot cope |

Thanks for the help. There is nothing wrong with my files - so I am a little confused at your response.
If I wanted to be able to access my library on two computers - what is the best solution? I don't have the setup to create a server. |

I access my Calibre library from multiple computers. I do o by setting up a network share and mapping the drive. WOorks very well. Been doing this for over 10 years. I don't need a specialized server. I am on Windows. But I don't see why it wouldn't work with OSX. Just remember to only run Calibe on one computer at a time.

its been said time and time again that hosting calibre in icloud, or any cloud is just a disaster waiting to happen read the link to the other icloud issues thread that I posted for you have a COPY in the cloud by all means, but have a master, local, backed up library also |

PS a dumb networked drive is safer than a cloud solution - it does not (usually) run hidden operations without your knowledge or permission, or go down for "maintenance" when you most need it, but even that option has only one regular advocate here.

For RELIABILITY (of the positive kind), LOCAL DRIVE only. ![]() For RELIABILITY (of the negative kind), shared DRIVE (W7 host <-XP ) ![]() Been there, done that. Was lucky that no damage was done, only that I had to use the Task Manager to KILL Calibre each time because the 'posted' signal never arrived back to release the MDE. This does not stop you from doing a one way BACKUP to the cloud |
