How to use remote libraries in calibre

I'm curious about remote libraries!

In the calibre manual under calibredb is an option listed where you can give the command a URL as library. - Is this possible for the GUI command calibre as well?

I am thinking of having only one library in a cloud instance which is edited as remote library from my Mac (and which is served at the same time via calibre-server from the cloud instance.

No, it is not, the GUI can only work with local libraries.

Do read the FAQ's
Calibre Libraries are extremely fragile IF PUT on any networked drive.
When, not IF
you will have problems.
Even active sync of the Library folder can bite back. Always pause the sync when you open Calibre (if the Library is synced)
If you want remote (some router configuration will be needed for off site access) access to your books, consider the Content server

But a mistake. It will fail.

And close Calibre when making a backup, copying or using rsync.
