is there any way to toggle footnotes on and off in Calibre Ebook Viewer

Hi -- not sure if I am posting in the right forum so apologies if that's not the case.

I read mostly non-fiction and I am very much 'footnote-centric' in my reading. Is there a shortcut key to toggle footnotes on and off in the Calibre E-Book viewer -- or is there any way that could be achieved? Currently, the footnotes will show at the bottom of the page and you click to close the window. Would be great if there were a 'toggle' shortcut key to show and then remove the footnotes. Thanks -- and please advise if I should make this request elsewhere. -Allen |

You appear to be using an old version of calibre. In the current version footnotes popup and dont show at the bottom of the screen. And you can press the esc key twice to hide the footnote.

I've not found a way do that with the new viewer, so when I want to read heavily footnoted texts I use old viewer, like this: BR |

Kovid, thanks for setting me straight! I forget to mention that I am using Linux Mint 18.3. The version in the package manager was 2.55 -- slightly out of date! I upgraded to 4.22 and the footnote issue is resolved -- as you said, I can now hit the escape key twice to get out of the footnotes. Thank you for providing such a great program! I read epubs just about every day using your reader! I will be making another donation! BetterRed -- I like the looks of your screen. I even started reading the text from the image you supplied. Will try to do the setup you describe -- very nice! I'm happy now! -Allen |
