Yes but not all Kindles can be jailbroken easily and most folks are probably uncomfortable with "hacking" their device.

True but again, not all devices can be jailbroken easily (or even at all as is the case with Oasis 3).

I post here but I have a chromebook, think Linux, and a Huawei phone to play with. My Kindles are for reading. I know it's hard to believe that that is all I do with my Kindles.

Personally I feel the same (don't even patch my Kobos any more), but if I was younger I would probably feel differently. I'm glad the options are there for those who do want to jailbreak their eReaders.

I cannot remember a case where a Kindle update took this long before someone reported a ‘sighting’ of the new features. What could be taking so long?

It could take months. The Page Flip feature was first introduced in Kindle firmware version 5.7.2 released in February 2016, but was not activated by Amazon until June 28 of that year.

That is correct, but that feature was a 'surprise' except to code spelunkers like yourself: there was never anything in the What's New description with the update itself, they just wanted to coordinate the release with some press announcement (and launch of 8th gen Kindle, and completion of parallel feature for Fire, iOS, and Android apps). And it really is a nice feature.

But the Aa enhancements have been announced in What's New, so it should be considered 'imminent' and not something we'll have to wait another 4 months for (why would Amazon do that for such a boring and unremarkable feature?). Plus the equivalent feature is already in the Kindle iOS app. Hence my impatience and WTF-ness. Turn on the switch already. Maybe we're just waiting for enough Kindles to have 5.12.4 on them before that happens.

In contrast, I'm not expecting to see the Cover option any time soon, as they have not made any official mention of it.

I agree. It's odd that this feature was not enabled from the start as it was on the Kindle for iOS app.

While we wait here are some more potential future features to consider: The ability to pin books to the home screen so that they can be found easily. A Comics Unlimited subscription, separate from Kindle Unlimited.

Wish there were a way to pin them in order, rather than default of newest added showing up first. I suppose I could use a TBR collection for that, but still...

They already have the Comixology Unlimited service though so I wonder if they'll bother with it on Amazon proper. It seems all comics available on CU are available on KU anyway (at least for titles available on both platforms).

I never thought of this, but I love that idea. I sometimes save in collections, but I find it tedious with how slow e-ink readers are with that, when I'm trying to keep the books near the "top" for planning purposes. A pin/sticky option to home would fix that.
