I'd just like to say how wonderful this plug in is to quickly read back the annotations for one book and copy/paste into my tabbed text editor (used to be Notepad++, but now is KATE).
It's been working fine now through several upgrades of Calibre and the Plug-in for Original H2O and now Libra. It's not been causing any issues here on Linux Mint 18.3 with Mate Desktop. Thanks for all the work David. |

Hello,
First, thanks for you're work on KoboUtilities, it's a useful plugin! My problem: KoboUtilities doesn't appear no more on Calibre. I did update the extension, suppress and install it again, no change. I process update again on the Kobo (.tgz), same. What happen before: I've just bought a new Clara HD, before I had a Aura ed.2. I was able to install everything on the Clara, with no problem related to KoboUtilites. - Another thing I did is to put on "devmode" on the Kobo (for inverted text, but I tried widget option and then deactivate "devmode". System: OSX 10.11 (El Capitan) - max system on my computer - so with Calibre 3.48 Thanks in advance for your help. Bests |

Could it be a version problem with Calibre 3.48? If yes, where could I find an older version of KoboUtilities?

The mention of a ".tgz" is probably referring to the "KoboRoot.tgz" used to update the firmware. This happens on the device and has no direct impact to calibre or the Kobo Utilities plugin. The same with using the developers mode on the device. Nothing about that will affect how calibre or the Kobo Utilities plugin will interact with the device. There should be no reason the Kobo Utilities plugin will not run with calibre 3.48. I have not changed the minimum supported calibre version for a very long time. In fact, it should work with 1.48, but, I don't think I have tested this recently. I have been updating the plugin to support Python 3. It should be backwardly compatible. But, I might have an error. I have been testing the changes with 3.x, but, no were near as thoroughly as with the current release version. It could be a Mac thing as I don't have one to test with. But, what does "doesn't appear no more on Calibre" mean? Does it mean that the plugin is not listed in the Plugins page of the preferences? And that installing the plugin appears to work, but, isn't in the list when you restart calibre? If so, please run calibre in debug mode and post the log. That should show the error when calibre is initialising the plugin. Another possibility is that the toolbar button isn't showing. If so, you need to check that it is still on a toolbar using the preferences. When install the plugin, it defaults to being on "The main toolbar when a device is connected". But, you can add it to other toolbars yourself. If it not on the toolbar, but is in the "Available actions" list, you can add it to the desired toolbar. If you mean something else, then can you explain in detail what is happening. Then I can look at what is wrong. |

Update to version 2.11.0
I have just released an update to the plugin. This adds support for the Series Tab in the Kobo firmware version 4.10.14601 that was released today.
The change log is:
There are no visible changes. When using the "Update metadata in device database" function, if the series option is set, the database on the device is updated so that sideloaded books are shown in the Series Tab. The plugin should work with older versions of calibre and all versions of the Kobo firmware. This function will also be implemented in the KoboTouch driver. That update should be in the next calibre release. As usual, calibre will announce the update in the next hour or so. And if there are any problems please report them here. |

Hello, thanks a lot for your quick reply.
You gave me te solution: I thought that after installation KoboUtilities would directly appear on the toolbar, but I had to go to Prefs/Toolbar and add it...... It’s done and everything works, great! (Why it disappeared before, no idea). (I was not mixing things up but giving you details about my Kobo Device as I supposed that perhaps it was not recognized as a Kobo by calibre and therefore not opening KoboUtilities). Thanks a lot, Bests |

Using Reading Status with 2 Aura One.
Hi davidfor, Both my wife and I have an Aura One reader. We share the same calibre library. I have set up the Kobo Utilities to store My Rating, Percent Read, Current Reading Location and Last Time Read on calibre. This is great as it would allow me to 1) re-install the content of the Aura One (and reading status) should it become lost 2) install the content (and reading status) on a new reader when I purchase one. So far so good. Now I would like to do the same for my wife's Aura One. (If she had a reader other than the Aura One, it would be easy.) QUESTION: How can I use the Reading Status of the Kobo Utilities on 2 different Aura One sharing the same calibre database? Thank you for any suggestions you might have regarding this question. |

If you do the reading status fetch manually, or when doing a restore, you can select the profile to use. The help does have this. It should cover most of this setup. Though, I don't think it covers the device part fully. |

Windows 10, 32 bit, Calibre 4.13, KU v. 2.11.0, Kobo Touch A.
I recently get this message at plugging the device in: Code:
calibre, version 4.13.0 (win32, embedded-python: True) Failed to backup device database: Fehlgeschlagen: Backing up Kobo device database wrong # of entries in index content_bookid_index wrong # of entries in index sqlite_autoindex_content_1 Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 90, in run File "calibre_plugins.koboutilities.jobs", line 197, in do_device_database_backup Exception: wrong # of entries in index content_bookid_index wrong # of entries in index sqlite_autoindex_content_1 And on my other computer (Windows 10, 46 bit), there was no problem. I just can't test it once more, because the other computer is at a different place. Can somebody help, please? Last edited by Leonatus; 04-18-2020 at 06:24 AM. Reason: Typo |

If you are swapping between two computers, the error should happen on both. But, if it happened on one yesterday, and the other today, it just means that the corruption happened in between. Possibly when you were disconnecting from the first. My usual advice for fixing a corrupt database is to restore a backup, or do a signout and back in on the device. But, the errors show are in the some indexes. These can be fixed. Doing a compress will rebuild the indexes. And I think the firmware will do this at some point, but, I'm not sure when. The plugin has a compress function. Try that, disconnect and reconnect and see if it fixes it. |

Can't Store Bookmarks Automatically, only manual with specific setting
Greetings to all the Forum! Clara HD owner here..
This is my first post here.. Months ago, I used the automatic store on connection of Kobo Utilities plugin with my Clara HD with no problems. Then it happened to me that the device database got corrupted (wouldn't boot, needed to hard reset). I didn't have a backup so I had to lose all bookmarks and annotations made so far. Also I lost the entire Calibre data, with all saved columns (infos).. ![]() Today, after some time without reconfiguring all Calibre plugins, I decided to set up all again. Kobo Utilities works as intended, the automatic device backup works fine, but I'm not able to find a way to do the automatic bookmarks save. I can only save the bookmarks manually, only for the selected books, and only if I set the work to be done not in background. What am I doing wrong? Calibre 4.14 - Kobo Utilities 2.11.0 - Win 10 Pro x64 P.S.: Thanks very much for all your effort with this tool! |
