Got the first success report on jb on PW4 G00102 (India) with 5.12.3.

G000 PP12 with 5.10.3 confirmed jail broken.

The whole jail breaking process was very quick and easy. I was trying to get the custom screensaver function and that took a lot more time, had to go through installing python, kual, screensavers hack etc

But now it's working perfectly.
So now i'm at Version 5.10.1.3
Is there anything else I need to do? I applied the hotfix to survive updates.
I dont really need any new features and I don't any future updates to mess it up, I still have the update.bin.tmp.partial folder
Will this stop all updates?

You should be OK as long as you stay below 5.11

The safest strategy is to never leave airplane mode.

Hit that “PREVENT OTA UPDATES” in Kual — Helper menu, it will also create another file inside the system to stop updates

arggh.. I actually found out I do need something.. since I had been on 5.10.3
It has the READ/UNREAD feature.. and I do miss it since I have a lot of books and it's one quick way to organize..

so is it safe just for me to find the 5.10.3 file, place it in the root of the device and upgrade?
Is there anywhere I can find the 5.10.3 file? Amazon only has the newest, and I didn't find 5.10.3 anywhere on the site yet

Yes, it is safe. I'm currently on 5.10.3 since my PW4 jailbreak.

All one has to do to get earlier firmware updates is change the version number in the url.

After updating, you'll need to reinstall the addons: python, KUAL, screensavers, etc.

Everything worked perfectly. Python and KUAL MRPI was actually still on the device. I didn't really need KUAL for anything, so I just threw in the screensaver hack, ran it, and now everything is the way I want it to be: 5.10.3 features with screensaver.

Over 1 day my paperwhite has transformed into the device I wanted it to be since day 1.. it took over half a year of waiting, but at last, here we are!

No, you need to REINSTALL hotfix asap to make sure your JB survives next time you update, then REINSTALL all packages you had if you want them to work again. Updates breaks everything.

And don’t forget to hit the “PREVENT OTA updates” button in KUAL-Helper.

This button creates two files:
— this “updats.bin…” folder in the visible root of USB,
— and a file in /var/local/system/ folder (invisible during USB connection).
They are intended to prevent automatic OTA updates.

The former breaks if you update to 5.11.x, and the latter breaks if you update to 5.12.x and above. Then the only way to aboid updates would be eother staying on Airplane forever, or filling up Kindle so there is 200 mb or less left.


So just stay on 5.10.3.

I’d follow that advice - but I will also add I’m on 5.12.2 and it hasn’t automatically updated to 5.12.3, and all I did was use the PREVENT OTA updates button in KUAL-Helper.

OK, general advice is to just make sure you keep an eye on Kindle, and once it *suddenly* updates, reinstall the hotfix asap (before another update comes).

I. e. having two consequent updates with no hotfix in between kills JB for sure.
