FREE/BARGAIN — Audiobooks

Yeah, I never saw a working tracker. There is some discussion online, and a rep pointed to that page ... but nothing recently. Anybody want to bother them to find some answers?

Last year I took advantage of a deal to subscribe to audible for a year, the subscription ends on April and all my credits where available up front, during the year I also took advantage of deals on scribd and audible escape and I joined a library so I still have a lot of credits, I saw in this thread that some of you have put your subscription on hold, but couldn’t find details, in the audible page it is mentioned but there are no details, so can anyone explain a bit how it works?

I also saw the silver plan mentioned, and that one I could understand by reading the comments of people that used it.

Anyone used both at different times? What are your thoughs about both.

First, I'm virtually positive that you can only put your subscription on hold if you have a monthly membership. It doesn't work for the annual ones. Does that mean you couldn't switch to a monthly membership and then put your membership on hold? Can't say.

I've done both. If you have a ton of credits and don't want to cash them all in, hold is better, IMO. The drawback is that you won't be able to access any sales or promotions, including the Daily Deal, while your membership is on hold. The Silver plan is a full membership, but of course then you continue to rack up credits and if you already have a lot, that might not be the answer. So the considerations would be how important are the promotions to you and how very many credits do you already have in hand. Also, once you quit, you in effect start the clock until you're eligible for another promotional membership. In the long run, quitting is really the only answer.

Make sure you use any remaining credits in your account before quitting. If you still have credits and quit, you'll lose them.

Also a reminder for those of us wanting to get the Challenge Amazon credit, expecially those of us on a trial membership like the NSLS deal: Don't cancel your membership under AFTER March 17th or you won't be eligible for the Amazon credit. (Wait till after you get the credit.)

I was in that same situation--a yearly membership, at the end of which I had half a dozen or so credits left. I went to the silver membership, and I'm really happy with it--one credit every two months, and I still get all the sales and membership perks. The silver membership can be put on hold, which would skip only one payment/credit. If you have a gold (monthly) membership, you can put it on hold for three months.

For me, the silver membership was a no-brainer.

I still have 9 credits and I don’t want to lose them and would prefer to choose the books at my pace and not because I’m in a hurry so I won’t lose them.

I’m leaning to the hold option, I would prefer to not get more credits, also I don’t really care about the promotions, in fact I never bought a Daily Deal.

Since I have until April and my promotional audible escape subscription ends this month I will be looking for my next read, so I should spend some credits, and if not on April I’ll try to put the membership on hold.

You'd have to switch to a gold or silver first to use the hold option, though, and you can use the hold only once every 12 months.
