Exclamation Epub to mobi Error
Hello!

My name is Juanma, I am spanish.

I have a problem to convert a epub ebook to mobi.

I upload the error that Calibre show me.
Is it a calibre bug? Is there anything wrong in the epub? Where is the problem?

Anyone could help me?

According to this post, the CSS parser most likely ran out of memory.

If you have an older computer, try downloading KindleGen and use it to convert your book. (KindleGen is a command line epub compiler.)

You really need to upgrade from Calibre 1.48 to either 3.48 or 4.9.1.

As to that, here you could get a Win10 laptop (used, but in working order) for as little as 50 €, from a local marketplace. Of course I don't know how things are in the OP's country. But I suppose used electronics are bought and sold practically everywhere.

I don't recall what's been fixed and/or changed since 1.48. Maybe a newer version would be more memory efficient. The problem is that most people who ask for help do not post all the information we need to try to help. What OS is important. What hardware is important when it's a memory error. If the OP is running XP on hardware that's capable of running a newer OS, then the solution is to switch to a 64-bit Windows 10.

For now, all we are doing is speculating. The OP has to come back and tell us what he's using for an OS and hardware.

One potential issue is that it appears that the epub has a separate file for each page. This, to me, strongly suggests a fixed layout epub3 file which is not going to convert well on any version of calibre or OS.

Good point. I find fixed layout ePub or KF8 to be rubbish.

This program convert the epub, but the quality is very low, really is a crap, it is imposible to read, there are unreadable characters...

This is a case of "Garbage In, Garbage Out." Most likely the epub is incorrectly encoded. I'm pretty sure that even Calibre wouldn't be able to produce a much better output.

The only way to fix this issue is to edit the epub with Calibre Editor before the conversion.

The first problem is that calibre ran out of memory when trying to convert.
The second problem is that kindlegen did not do a good conversion
The third problem is that it seems likely that the ePub is a fixed-layout ePub which will not convert nicely to anything else.

To fix (1), run the 64-bit version of calibre if you can.

But the third problem is probably not something that can be easily fixed. Certainly not by just merging the separate pages into fewer files.

The answer is to forget trying to convert this ePub to anything else. It won't work.

Next, get 64-bit Calibre if you are running a 64-bit Windows.
