Especially considering that in general I don’t download these book more than about 3-4 times a month, one book at a time. The rest of my reading is via a couple subscription services.
Given that I've used a Surface Pro 2, I would say for sure that it's easier to install Calibre on your Surface Pro and use your Surface to manage your eBook on your Nova Pro.

The problem is solved. The OP does have a computer. He has a Surface Pro 4 that will run Calibre no problem.

Yes it does. But the way I described that I was doing it turns out to be not more or less a PITA than diddling with a computer and Calibre. Not enough books to make that worthwhile IMO.

If you download the format you NEED. There is no NEED for calibre.
Just copy the book across to the device by whatever connection method is available. (USB, BluTooth, TCP/IP)

Presumably that runs Android. Try installing Airdroid on it. That gives you a file server you can up or download files to using a browser on just about any other device directly if they are both connected to teh samne router (teh "Web" setting, or via the internet using their website. But eth doirect connection is better.

Also, since you also have an iPad, the free Readdle "Documents" app on that has a browser that allows you to simply save files from any website, unlike Safari and the other browsers that infuriatingly will not. From there you can "share" epubs, etc with whatever apps you like on the iPad or upload via Airdroid to an Android device.

Drop box should also work for moving files around.
