I am very very unskilled with Sigil and If anyone can/will help with my query knowing this may be very important.
![]() I have version 0.9.10.0 and whilst on an earlier version Sub and superscript displayed in smaller characters they all now display in "normal" size letters. How can I get back my smaller characters --- please. All help is always appreciated. Especially in very simple terms ![]() JIm |

sup and sub tags definitely render smaller for me automatically in Preview (using the very latest version of Sigil anyway). But if you're looking for consistency across a wide range devices apps, then you'll probably want to use css to style those tags.

I don't see a problem with the & tags. They seem to work just fine for me on Sigil 1.0.0 on Windows 10. You may need to check any CSS files you have linked to your html file, or if there is any styling at the top of your html file, or if there is any inline styling, to see if you are overriding the Sigil defaults.
Look for: Code:
In a CSS file or in the <style> section at the top of the html page: sup {font-size:...} sub {font-size:...} In the actual HTML document: yadda yadda yadda yadda Last edited by Turtle91; 01-24-2020 at 11:30 AM. |

Most (device) render engines have defaults baring a book CSS definition.
Sup and Sub tags render small characters without any other CSS entries on my part. Check your books CSS. they may have done a stupid (set absolute size instead of scalable) |

Thanks folks - I will play around for a while and see what happens - I repeat I am pretty useless at this.
But one question is there somewhere in the Sigil settings where i can set these defaults or ....? I'm probably using the wrong words but thanks lots for trying to help Regards ![]() J |

There's no Sigil setting/preference of any kind that would affect how Sigil creates sub- and super-scripts.

Which operating system are you using - Linux, MacOS or Windows? I suggest you either install the current version (1.0.0) or the version you were using prior to 0.9.10, see Releases · Sigil-Ebook/Sigil -- scroll down for earlier releases. BR |

Good oh.
If 1.0.0 doesn't fix it the code mavens will pounce on the html and css and tell you what's wrong - but be warned, they may not all say the same thing ![]() BR |

Be aware that the leap from 0.9.10 to 1.0.0 means the loss of Book View. I'm not saying don't update, I'm just saying that if you're a heavy Book View user, Sigil 1.0.0 will involve a pretty big learning curve. One that I believe is worth it, but it's not a minor change at all depending on your normal workflow.
If keeping Book View is a priority, then Sigil v0.9.10 is the one you want to stick with. Later versions (even ones before Book View was removed) can have performance issues. |
