I've seen those, and I like them, but I don't think they'd give a lunch-stealer so much as a minor pause. You have to make the misdirection at least somewhat plausible.

Given that I work in a university, labeling an otherwise unmarked container with "Sample: 87634086 Date: 3/13/09" would probably do it.

Yup, that's my thoughts too. We were told that in May our entire company is taking pay *cuts* so that we can avoid layoffs for a while. I was resigned to no raise the last few years, but hadn't really expected to have a pay reduction. *sigh* At least I'll still be getting a pay cheque and won't have to say goodbye to any friends for a while longer.

I'm sorrry to say this Justy but that's exactly how it started for us.

I'm still angry about the whole mess those speculators created. Shouldn't they be tried or something?

i think they should all be in jail. or shot. i'm angry about it too. they're still getting obscenely huge bonus checks on top of their paychecks, but we (the ones who struggle to begin with) are struggling more because of them *and* picking up the tab (we pay with our taxes).

There's a whole class of people involved here who will never be held accountable: mortgage brokers. These are the people who processed the mortgage applications, encouraged people to lie in those applications to look creditworthy when they were not, pressured people into borrowing more money than they needed (I actually heard ads suggesting that one take out an equity loan to go on vacation), etc. These people made millions in referral fees, but have absolutely no accountability at all.

Yes, the banks should have inspected these applications more closely, rather than accepting everything that came through the door. But a system that allows a group of people to profit from falsifying data and does not hold them accountable in any way is just waiting to be exploited.

And there STILL aren't any regulations on this practice.

Then there are those "credit default swaps".... STILL not regulated....

Aargh.
