If you're using Windows the file path name is too long (286 chars).

Stupid was the insane person who created that filename (and gave no thought to how other systems behave). < ![]() Many of us have decades of computer use (and remember when there were just 8.3 file names) |

I remember when DOS got Directories, what youngsters call folders.
I've had backups and file transfers fail in Windows and Linux due to silly programmers having the application backup create a nested subdirectory with each revision. There is a limit on total path. |

I call them directories. But you can't lock the English language in amber / aspic.
Directory may refer to: Directory (computing), or folder, a file system structure in which to store computer files https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct...older_metaphor However most users of computers, rather than programmers, make no distinction and now have no idea what a directory is. The 'Desktop' directory is not a desktop and 'Wallpaper' is not wallpaper and the 'Recycle Bin' is not ..... etc., many more They're just metaphors for people who think computers are appliances and just want to plug them in and surf. There's a whole lot more mis-uses of terminology that I see every day If they aid communication, I just bite my tongue |

I use dir and folder without caring to much. The opposite would be: "oh, you're running linux?, then you should check that 'special' kind of file which maps file names and their index nodes..." Being technically correct *sometimes* goes against teaching something. |
