@kovid I just wanted you to know that Dark Mode is awesome. I run most of my stuff in dark mode because of my eyes and getting calibre in darkmode was something I hadn't even really thought of until you did it... like some of the other past changes. I'm quite happy it was requested and implemented.

On my windows 10, dark mode works when I'm using calibre style in look and feel, but not when I use system default. |

Can the scroll bars be made more visible? It's rather hard to see where on the scroll bar I am.

Thank you for the viewer improvements.
As mentioned, I think the default font color creates too much contrast and eye strain. macOS & iOS dark mode currently is also as such though macOS and iOS Books uses #BEBEBE as font color which is pretty nice in low or no light conditions. One possible option would be for the built-in themes to be customizable, e.g. one could set the font color and background for each theme and System would then use White or Black. One mention of high contrast causing eye strain: https://blog.superhuman.com/how-to-d...s-7b3da644ff1f. Another thing, is there any harm to also override the border-color of all elements? I'm not sure if in the case when there is no border, none would show up, and then if there is one, it would use the overridden night theme color for elements such as tables or divs. Mentioned before, could there be a shortcut to bring up Preferences? |

system will use the system provided colors. Get your system to provide less contrasty colors or use a custom color scheme. I am not going to get into the business of overriding system colors. And next release has ctrl+esc to show preferences.

"Are you in good health?" - Manusmriti
I wasn't aware system used the system colors; I had thought it merely determined whether mode is light or dark, and then used its own theme. Perhaps it could do that, with some setting to toggle whether to auto-switch light dark according to system, customizable themes, and which theme to use for light and dark. It remains that the dark theme as such, on macOS, is of too much contrast. Thanks for the preferences shortcut. Unsure if shortcuts are specific per platform, on macOS it is cmd-, which is a good default. Certainly, if it is customizable, better but defaults ideally conform to the OS. If you had forgotten or hadn't had a chance to get around to it, mouse and trackpad scrolling in the viewer on macOS isn't great though in preferences, it works perfectly. |

Nope on macOS it uses system colors. Just define your own theme if you dont like the system colors.
And no scrolling cannot use native scrolling, since it has to interpret gestures. |
