Calibre 64 bit new installation does not work

This is what has happened, in sequence:

I got an error on Calibre saying my database was corrupted. I hadn't updated Calibre in awhile, so I went ahead and uninstalled and installed the new version.

It still said the database was corrupted, so I restored from backup. Unfortunately, I had not backed up since sometime in 2018, so while a lot of my books showed up in the library, they weren't really there, and I kept getting database errors.

I decided to check a book I KNEW was on the backup, so I did, and got this error:

Error: unhandled exception
Critical Error: Failed to launch worker process: Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages\calibre\utils\ipc\server.py", line 239, in do_launch File "site-packages\calibre\utils\ipc\launch.py", line 394, in_init_File "subprocess.py", line 644, in_execute_child WindowsError: [Error 5] Access is denied

So I uninstalled and re-downloaded the file and installed again, and same thing. Calibre is completely useless to me.

I hope you can help.

Access denied is ALWAYS a permissions (of some sort) issue.
Workers need full access right to the Temp folders

There is a FAQ on this subject at the Calibre Help site.

Thanks, but I'm a luddite and I don't understand a bit of most of what I read on here and elsewhere about how to fix it. After HOURS AND HOURS of trying to get it to work and installing a different firewall and antivirus, I finally got it to work. Then I remembered that I really hated v.4, so I just went and installed the last edition of v.3, and now it's just what I wanted.

I feel like if I had just gone back to the previous version right away, it might have actually worked. Now my day is wasted and I haven't gotten to read at all.

If Calibre wasn't the best program around, I'd be looking for something new.
