I've tried to reset my kobo and update the firmware and it's the same. Perhaps after a reset a file is kept... do you see which one could store this "bad" setting ?

According to the latest release, if you touch the middle of the page you should have a stats graph icon in the header menu. Does this only apply to books bought from Kobo because I am reading a sideloaded book and no such icon appears in my header menu.

I believe the stats are only displayed for kepub files (both, from the store and side loaded)

@xyclonei is correct, this is a kepub enhanced behavior. The KoboTouch Extended plugin allows the kepub conversion for sideloaded books. I think it's the highlighted option below that does it.

Thanks to you too. I guess you need the Kobo app on your computer for this? Which I don't have. Is kepub much better for reading?

I had a nook to start with and use adobe digital editions to sideload my books onto the kobo clara.

You don't need the Kobo app for the extended driver, you need Calibre. https://calibre-ebook.com/

Kepubs aren't exactly better than epubs, but they have some features epubs don't. Reading statistics is one of them. On the other hand, epubs have better typography. It's your choice which of them you prefer. Personally, I use epubs, because reading stats aren't important to me.

Another thought: if your epubs have DRM and you don't want to remove it, then the extended driver will be of no use to you, as it cannot convert books with DRM.

I tried kepubs (inadvertantly) for quite a while. I prefer epubs as they render the same as the converted to KF8/AZW on Kindle and also the same as the epubs on Android apps, Calibre Viewer and other makes of ereader such as iRiver, Binatone, Sony and Nook.
Also some books either the entire margin or first line indent was wrong on kepubs if that was in the css as Points rather than Ems. Most renderers (ebook or web browser) use the industry standard 12 pt = 1em. I wasn't going to edit CSS to suit the kepub renderer, though I did on a couple of books to prove to myself that Points are incorrectly handled in some situations by kepub renderer. Perhaps they have fixed it as that was a few versions ago.

These stats have always been there for all book type. What has changed is that if you have the data sharing option turned off, they are now shown.

Have a look at the new header/footer options in the settings, and if you want to reduce the padding, look at https://pgaskin.net/kobopatch-patche...tch-13651.html.
