One of the patches in the KoboPatcher collection changes the dicthtml strings in libnickel.so.1.0.0 to micthtml. With that patch in place, save your dictionaries as micthtml*.zip which is supposed to prevent them from being overwritten. At least that's what I read into ps67's post #511 in this thread.

Code:
Change dicthtml strings to micthtml:
  - Enabled: no
  - Description: |
This patch is used for something to do with syncing and custom dictionaries.
If you don't know what it does, then you probably don't need it.
  - FindReplaceString: {Find: "%1/dicthtml%2\0", Replace: "%1/micthtml%2\0"} # null is needed to not match %1/dicthtml%2.zip
  - FindReplaceString: {Find: "dicthtml\0", Replace: "micthtml\0"} # null is needed to not match dicthtml*
  - FindReplaceString: {Find: "/mnt/onboard/.kobo/dict/dicthtml%1", Replace: "/mnt/onboard/.kobo/dict/micthtml%1"}

It's not trivial and currently a very manual process. You're better off trying to find out if a version of that mobi dictionary exists in another input format that Pyglossary supports, as that would make things a lot easier.
Thanks a lot for your response.

As a foreigner I love the use the En-en dictionary Merriam Webster Advanced Learners on Kindle, I just look for the same for my Kobo, but MW doesn't sell it, and I couldn't find way to convert it from .mobi to Kobo format.

Well, since it sounds like you already own a copy but lack the technical skill to do the conversion from mobi format, you could try to search and see if someone else has managed to convert a version of the MW ALD to, say, Stardict format or another Pyglossary compatible input format, like, say, Mdict, which you could then use with Pyglossary/Penelope instead. No need to reinvent the wheel if someone else has already managed to do the work, so to speak...

English-Thai dictionary for Kobo app on Android?

Hello,

I am looking for English-Thai dictionary for Kobo app installed on an Android tablet. I do not see this in the list of available dictionaries in the first posting of this thread.

Is this possible?
If possible, I was wondering if anyone has this dictionary and could post it please? I do not have the technical skills to use the Unix/Linux tools to create my own custom dictionary.

I found an open-source English-Thai dictionary in .mobi format. Is it possible to convert this to Kobo dictionary format? If someone could do this for me I would pay them for their services.

Thank you!

I don't know a lot about this, but I do know that these dictionaries are meant for Kobo devices, not the Kobo app. There is no possibility to choose or add dictionaries to the app. Much better idea is to look for a good english-thai dictionary app and use it in cooperation with the kobo app.

Is there a better way to do this? Replacing the default dicthtml.zip file works SOMETIMES, but it doesn't work forever, and once it breaks ("no English dictionary installed") it is cumbersome and finnicky to fix. It is simply not enough to just replace the file. It feels as though it's some magic combination of replacing the file, rebooting, not rebooting, etc., that finally gets it temporarily working.

It needs the patch Dictionary text font-family/font-size/line-height - beta enabled with a unicode font (or at least one that include the hebrew characters. Otherwise several characters will not be shown using the dictionary)
Can you explain how do I enable this font thing? I think this is the issue I got in my previous post

The fact is that the font that Kobo uses for the dictionary by default does not contain the necessary glyphs to display Hebrew. Therefore, you need to change the font using this patch from Jackie. In the description of the patch Jackie all very accessible stated.

Links to the desired fonts (put in the fonts folder):
https://fonts.google.com/?subset=hebrew
http://culmus.sourceforge.net/taamim/index.html
http://culmus.sourceforge.net/fancy/index.html

I did not check the dictionary, due to the lack of Hebrew books and the necessary fonts. Owl_ probably checked.
