  3. Pick 10 “Must Read” books for the year from my huge digital TBR mountain (not including any new releases)

January 2020
Read 19 books.

February 2020
Read 28 books.

March 2020
Read 35 books. (though was mostly rereads *sigh*)

April 2020

May 2020
Read 13 books.

June 2020
Read 16 books.

July 2020
Read 11 books.
Completed the Twenty Winks Challenge.

August 2020
Read 27 books.

September 2020
Read 21 books.

October 2020
Read 23 books.
Completed the Alphabet Challenge Variation.

November 2020
Read 20 books.
Completed the Backlist Targeted Twenty Challenge; the 20 in 20 Phonics Challenge; and the Twenty Winks Challenge Reprise.

December 2020

How about I just read and see how many I finish? Simple. I'm not doing a goal on Goodreads either. No buying unless some favorite authors have a book out or I want to continue a series. Random sales are a no-no.

Books read:

Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware
The Institute by Stephen King
Polaris Rising by Jesse Mihalik
Star Trek Picard: The Last Best Hope by Una McCormack
Green Mountain Road and Selected Stories by Leif Gregerson
Angel's Blood by Nalini Singh
Restless Hearts by B.J. Daniels
Star Trek: The Higher Frontier by Christopher L. Bennett
Force of Nature by Jane Harper
Aurora Blazing by Jesse Mihalik
Heartbreaker by B.J. Daniels
Beartown by Fredrick Bachman
Chaos Reigning by Jesse Mihalik
Her Pretty Face by Robyn Harding
Star Trek: TNG Balance of Power by Dafydd ab Hugh
Star Trek Voyager: Chrysalis by David Niall Wilson
Peace Talks by Jim Butcher
Star Trek More Beautiful Than Death by David Mack
The Vanishing by Jane Anne Krentz
The End of Her by Shari Lapena
Archangel's Kiss by Nahlini Singh.

Place holder. Not sure I'll attempt this again, given how appallingly I failed this year, but hope springs eternal and all that.

My goal next year is to just read. I do not care how many books I read, just that I enjoy them.

Page Count, Genre, No-Buy Year

  • Read 50,000 pages
  • Read at least 10 non-fiction books
  • Don't buy any new books until I've read 100 books that I already own

I tried to mix the challenging with the not-too-incredibly-challenging. A more detailed breakdown of my challenges:

Read 50,000 pages
832/50,000

Spoiler:
Looking at my GoodReads history, I tend to read approximately 30,000 pages across ~80 or so books in a calendar year. I'd like to get up to 50,000, which I do expect to be quite challenging -- but all it really takes is stepping back from my video game addiction just a little bit, really!

Read at least 10 non-fiction books
1/10

Spoiler:
I don't expect this will be too difficult at all. I only really started to read non-fiction in 2019, but I quickly developed a love for both mountaineering and true crime books. Fortunately enough, my mother has a staggering collection of the latter, so I'll be spoiled for choice every time I visit her!

Don't buy any new books until I've read 100 books that I already own

Purchased: 0
Read, owned: 1/100

Spoiler:
This goal will absolutely take more than just one year, but let's try to keep me accountable for this year! I have a big problem with buying new books when I absolutely do not need them. I have well over a hundred paper books that I've yet to read, let alone the growing digital pile (which I'm frankly afraid to check the tally on). Kindle Unlimited and library books won't count towards this total, otherwise I'll cheat and breeze through 100 pulpy KU romance novellas. I know what I'm like!

Finally, a spoiler tag under which I'll list everything that I read:

Spoiler:
#. Title, Author (Genre) KU/B(orrowed)/O(wned)

1. Dark Imperium, Guy Haley (Sci-Fi) O
2. The Mystery of the Exploding Teeth and Other Curiosities from the History of Medicine, Thomas Morris (Non-Fic) B
