Now at $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. Although they have been going on sale somewhat frequently in the UK, it's kind of unusual for Kerr/Gunther titles to go on sale in the US, and they're normally $11.99 and up, so if you don't like to travel, grab it now...

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001SCK73E
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/a-quiet-flame-1

NOTE: If you use EBates with Kobo, note there is a bumped-up 10% for today, Monday, only...

The Hangman's Secret is the third in Laura Joh Rowland's Sarah Bain Victorian mystery series. I've quite liked all of the titles I've read in her Sano Ichiro series, but haven't tried any of this series. So, I'm happy to see this one drop to $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

If you use EBates with Kobo, note the bumped-up 10% for today, Monday, only...

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D2HMQSB
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-hangman-s-secret-2

Spoiler:
Quote:
From award-winning author Laura Joh Rowland, a story about the darkness that lurks within and the deadly secrets that beg to be revealed.

Intrepid photographer Sarah Bain and her motley crew of friends are back to hunt criminals in the dark, seedy underbelly of Victorian London, but little do they know, the darkness may lurk closer than they first divined.

Photographer Sarah Bain and her friends Lord Hugh Staunton and sometime street urchin Mick O’Reilly are private detectives with a new gig—photographing crime scenes for London’s Daily World newspaper. The Daily World is the latest business venture of their sole client, Sir Gerald Mariner, a fabulously wealthy and powerful banker.

One cold, snowy January morning, Sarah, Hugh, and Mick are summoned to the goriest crime scene they’ve ever encountered. A pub owner named Harry Warbrick has been found hanged and decapitated amid evidence of foul play. His murder becomes a sensation because he was England’s top hangman and he’s met the same fate that he inflicted on hundreds of criminals.

Sir Gerald announces that the Daily World—meaning Sarah and her friends—will investigate and solve Harry Warbrick’s murder before the police do. The contest pits Sarah against the man she loves, Police Constable Barrett. She and her friends discover a connection between Harry Warbrick’s murder and the most notorious criminal he ever executed—Amelia Carlisle, the “Baby-Butcher,” who murdered hundreds of infants placed in her care.

Something happened at Amelia’s execution. The Official Secrets Act forbids the seven witnesses present to divulge any information about it. But Harry had a bad habit of leaking tips to the press. Sarah and her friends suspect that one of the other witnesses killed Harry to prevent him from revealing a secret related to the execution. What is the secret, and who hanged the hangman?

Again at $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. Links below are still good...

And also £1.99 at Kindle UK. If you travel, and don't have credit card fees, that's a bit cheaper than $2.99 in the US...

Woo-hoo! The Body in the Castle Wall is the latest title (2019) in Martin Walker's Bruno series, which I am quite quite fond of. So I am really happy to see it drop to £0.99 at Kindle UK, especially since titles in this series almost never go on sale in the US. I even pushed the button to buy it before typing this post, just to make sure I didn't miss it .

A missing art student. An international investigation. A secret that will shatter the village of St Denis. Millions of readers worldwide are talking about the Dordogne Mysteries. Find out why and join them with the latest gripping addition to this beloved series.

'Will make readers long for lazy days in rural France' Irish Independent

A rich American art student is found dead at the bottom of a well in an ancient hilltop castle. The young woman, Claudia, had been working in the archives of an eminent French art historian, a crippled Resistance war hero, at his art-filled chateau.

As Claudia's White House connections get the US Embassy and the FBI involved, Bruno traces the people and events that led to her fatal accident - or was it murder?

Bruno learns that Claudia had been trying to buy the chateau and art collection of her tutor, even while her researches led her to suspect that some of his attributions may have been forged. This takes Bruno down a trail that leads him from the ruins of Berlin in 1945, to France's colonial war in Algeria.

The long arm of French history has reached out to find a new victim, but can Bruno identify the killer - and prove his case?

The Likeness is the second in Tana French's Dublin Murder Squad series. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015DYIOU
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-likeness-a-novel

Spoiler:
Quote:
New York Times bestselling author Tana French, author of The Witch Elm, is “the most important crime novelist to emerge in the past 10 years” (The Washington Post) and “inspires cultic devotion in readers” (The New Yorker).

“Required reading for anyone who appreciates tough, unflinching intelligence and ingenious plotting.” —The New York Times

The perfect holiday gift for mystery lovers.
Now airing as a Starz series.

In the “compellingˮ (The Boston Globe) and “pitch perfectˮ (Entertainment Weekly) follow-up to Tana French’s runaway bestseller In the Woods, Cassie Maddox has transferred out of the Dublin Murder Squad—until an urgent telephone call brings her back to an eerie crime scene.

The victim looks exactly like Cassie and carries ID identifying herself as Alexandra Madison, an alias Cassie once used as an undercover cop. Suddenly, Cassie is back undercover, to find out not only who killed this young woman, but, more importantly, who she was.

The Likeness is a supremely suspenseful story exploring the nature of identity and belonging.

High Adventure by Donald E. Westlake is $1.99 at Amazon US.

Quote:
Kirby Galway may be a low-level marijuana smuggler in Belize, but the man has a dream—to make lots and lots of money. So when a local official offers him a back-jungle tract of land he swears would make a perfect cattle ranch, Kirby jumps at the opportunity. Unfortunately, he lands himself in a swamp—that he now owns.

Kirby begins selling homemade “artifacts” from his property to American museums and witless tourists, even building a fake ancient temple and recruiting a tribe of Mayan Indians who know a good scam when they see one.

But his cash-cow paradise soon attracts the attention of two snooping New York reporters, a beautiful archaeologist from UCLA, and a troop of Guatemalan guerillas just itching to shoot somebody. Kirby is going to have to talk fast, move faster, and pull out every dirty trick he knows if he’s going to get out of this alive . . .

Jane and the Wandering Eye is the third in Stephanie Barron's series featuring Jane Austen as the protagonist. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. Titles in this series seem to go on sale rarely and briefly, but over time I've picked up a good chunk of the series, which I remember enjoying (the first few titles) in DTB a looooong time ago.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002SXIEKU
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/jan...-wandering-eye

Spoiler:
Quote:
As Christmas of 1804 approaches, Jane Austen finds herself "insupportably bored with Bath, and the littleness of a town." It is with relief that she accepts a peculiar commission from her Gentleman Rogue, Lord Harold Trowbridge—to shadow his niece, Lady Desdemona, who has fled to Bath to avoid the attentions of the unsavoury Earl of Swithin.

But Jane's idle diversion turns deadly when a man is discovered stabbed to death in the Theatre Royal. Adding to the mystery is an unusual object found on the victim's body—a pendant that contains a portrait of an eye! As Jane's fascination with scandal leads her deeper into the investigation, it becomes clear that she will not uncover the truth without some dangerous playacting of her own....

Please note that post #3775 by GA Russell is NOT what was originally written. I apparently went into Edit Mode by mistake (rather than Quote Mode), and it mistakenly gives the impression that the post was made by GA Russell.

I think you accidentally deleted the end quote tag.

Lester Dent is an interesting guy. Among other things he cranked out most of the Doc Savage stories which IMO epitomized the depression-era pulp fiction phenomenon where a uniquely American hero could overcome impossible odds to save the world.

No problem, Don. I've edited the post.

I've never read Doc Savage. I remember around 1966 when the publisher re-released a number of them.

Repair to Her Grave is the fourth in the Home Repair is Homicide series by Sarah Graves. I remember reading and enjoying several of the books in this series in DTB, so happy to see this one drop to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001NJUP34
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/repair-to-her-grave

Spoiler:
Quote:
Home repair can be murder.

Jacobia Tiptree and her teenage son are used to their Eastport, Maine, home attracting more than its share of houseguests. This year Jake is hoping the plaster dust will keep them away while she finally gets her gem of a fixer-upper into shape — from doorknobs and chandeliers to leaky pipes to ghostly phenomena.

But when the charming and mysterious Jonathan Raines appears on her doorstep — and then just as suddenly disappears — remodeling the house becomes the least of Jake’s problems. Could Jonathan’s disappearance have something to do with his quest for a cursed violin — the one that local legend says was hidden by a long-ago owner of Jake’s house before he too vanished without a trace?

Soon Jonathan’s grief-stricken girlfriend arrives downeast, and Jake needs to strip Eastport’s past of its idyllic veneer — before a killer paints her very dead indeed!
