I splurged on getting a Kindle 10th gen for myself. I liked that it was smaller than my pw2 and that it has audible integration (bluetooth). And I'm not noticing the lower ppi but there's a flaw on the screen that I can't ignore - a little piece of plastic wedged under the bezel on the left side of the screen. After 20 min with customer service today I've got a replacement coming.

for sharing, I've been waiting for a deel to subscribe again, I was going to wait until the end of december to see if something better come around, and if it didn't I would subscribe for 6 months at 30$, but this deal is better for me.

I got a free Kindle Unlimited subscription when I bought a Kindle during the summer and cancelled it just before it expired. So they offered me the $0.99 for 3 months deal which I took. I don’t read much fiction so I can’t say how good their selection is in that genre. I mostly read history and science related stuff, and they are rather limited in those genres, but that is to be expected I guess. My 3 month subscription won’t be renewed as it isn’t worth the full monthly price in my usage, but it probably is to a lot of people. I’ve read several books through this service, but it is getting tough to find any books of interest now.

Unfortunately my BF goody is already having to be replaced. My Oasis 3 developed a thin one-pixel wide vertical line that extends completely across the screen from top to bottom. I didn’t drop or bump it and it has been in a case. Maybe it got treated roughly during shipping. But five days after receiving it it is scheduled for replacement. The invoice says I’m getting a new device, but the order shows an image of a plain brown box and has the dreaded letter "R" after the item name. I've got a bad feeling I’m getting a refurbished unit for a replacement of a brand new item. I know they sold out of the Oasis 3 and that might be all they have to send. I guess I’ll find out when it arrives on Monday.

Oh well, the $5 Amazon Smart Plug seems to be working well. So all is not bad.

Amazon currently only has one refurb Oasis for sale and it's a 9th gen model from 2017. Your Oasis is a 10th gen from 2019.

If you're getting a refurb, Amazon owes you a big refund for the price difference.

* Oasis 2 --> 8GB = $169 | 32GB = $200 --> refurb

* Oasis 3 --> 8GB = $250 | 32GB = $280

Pure guesswork on my part, but I don't think that not selling refurbed Oases III means they don't have them on hand as warranty replacements. In any case, a device that breaks out of the box, or pretty near, should be replaced by a brand spanking new one - but I wouldn't put it past Amazon to attempt the contrary. I think the fine print even says it can, which is why someone might have to go the return and rebuy route, rather than replace.

It's not so bad as a Prime member with free returns, but as a non-Prime customer you'd have to pay to return it in order to re-order a new device and that stinks.

If it is brand new, I don't think non-prime members have to pay for the return. And, unless they've cancelled the service, returns can be dropped of at a UPS store, who will package it for shipping at no charge. One of the few parts of amazon still working really well (in my one use experience).

I agree he should get a brand new replacement but I doubt he can accomplish that by return/re-buy. It was heavily discounted (I bought one too) but it no longer is.

Ah, indeed. You've put your finger on the sticking point. I foresee a long argument with CS and perhaps no satisfactory resolution. But with luck, being a Prime member who spends a lot of money at Amazon may work in his favor.

Yep, I got a $75 BF discount, so returning and rebuying really isn’t an option. I’m hoping I get a “new” replacement. The invoice clearly states new, so if it isn’t that might become a negotiating point. The fact that the replacement is coming from Warehouse Deals, Inc instead of Amazon probably means it will be a refurbished unit though. I’m ready for a fight with them if I get a refurbished unit. The worst that can happen is I tell them to take it back as a return and not get a replacement. I’ll have plenty of time left on the 30 day window to return no questions asked. As many Kindles as I’ve bought in the past twelve years I can probably talk them into a “new” unit even if I have to wait until they are back in stock. I’ll cross that road when and if I need to.

I have to say this is the first lighted Kindle I’ve ever truly liked. The screen is terrific, except for the vertical line of course. The light is even without that awful shadowing the PW’s had, and the yellowish/cream warmth is easy on my eyes.

I just got a text message and email from Amazon saying my replacement has shipped and I will now get it on Saturday instead of Monday as first reported.
