Kobo US is having a 60% off on science fiction sale today only, with coupon code BFWEDNESDAY, as part of their run-up to Black Friday.

The splash page is here: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/p/blackfriday2019usa

There are several categories listed, including:
  • Travel through time and space
  • Fantastical and otherworldly reads
  • In space no one can hear you scream
  • The best space operas in the universe
  • It's the end of the world as we know it
  • Take the kids on an adventure
This appears to be similar to the mystery-focused sale Kobo had yesterday, in that there are a lot of titles at full price (esp Open Road titles), where the 60% off still isn't less than a typical sale price.

However the 60% off does stack with the VIP discount if you belong to Kobo's VIP program, and it also applies to any titles on the lists that are already on sale, so if you sort each of the categories by price, and then look at the first few titles, you might find a few at worthwhile prices.

Obviously, YMMV...

Pfft! I'd hazard a guess that the $5 shipping is maybe something related to Black Friday deals for things that actually need shipping. Other Black Friday ebooks are showing $4.49 shipping -- a bargain!

And for what it's worth, on the page itself, it doesn't show a shipping cost

The Rain Wilds Chronicles (4 books) by Robin Hobb is $2.99 on Amazon.com.

This is Hobb's fourth series, and seems to be a sequel to the Liveship Traders series.

You beat me to it.

Yes, this is a sequel to the Liveship Traders; her 'Realm of the Elderlings' series should definitely be read in the order they were released.

The magic of discounts means this book won't murder your wallet. You'll be enchanted and ennobled by mysteries from an alternate world.

Randall Garrett - Murder and Magic (Lord Darcy) on Amazon.com for $1.99

I picked up Too Many Magicians for $2.99 in Feb 2018. Now I'm just looking for Lord Darcy Investigates. I see that Michael Kurland (whoever he is) is continuing the Darcy series but I doubt I'll look at those.

The Kurland continuation of the Darcy series isn't bad; they come across as pretty seamless. Of course, the Angevin Empire features in the Greenwich Village Trilogy.

It it's available to you, the Fantasy Masterworks edition of Lord Darcy contains all the Lord Darcy stories and is currently £3.99 (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Darcy-FANTA...al-text&sr=1-1).

The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow is $2.99 on Amazon.com

Quote:
In the early 1900s, a young woman embarks on a fantastical journey of self-discovery after finding a mysterious book in this captivating and lyrical debut.

In a sprawling mansion filled with peculiar treasures, January Scaller is a curiosity herself. As the ward of the wealthy Mr. Locke, she feels little different from the artifacts that decorate the halls: carefully maintained, largely ignored, and utterly out of place.
Then she finds a strange book. A book that carries the scent of other worlds, and tells a tale of secret doors, of love, adventure and danger. Each page turn reveals impossible truths about the world and January discovers a story increasingly entwined with her own.

Lush and richly imagined, a tale of impossible journeys, unforgettable love, and the enduring power of stories awaits in Alix E. Harrow's spellbinding debut--step inside and discover its magic.
