I placed an order for the Oasis 3 yesterday (Thanksgiving) for $174.99 BF sale price and it shipped this afternoon. I saw other ads for it on Amazon and some were showing it out of stock, but I think that was the 32GB model. I bought the 8GB model. Looks like it is a good thing I bought mine early Thursday morning! I just checked and the 8GB model is out of stock too. They went quick.

ETA: My Oasis is listed as Out for Delivery. I ordered it Thursday and they initially listed it as arriving by 9pm Sunday. Normally a big ticket item like this gets delivered the same day or the following day, but since I ordered on Thanksgiving Day I wouldn't have expected that quick of a delivery, nor would I have expected it to be delivered on BF. I kind of figured it would come today (Saturday) even though they said Sunday. I suspect they were being very conservative on their estimates since some people go ballistic if their order is even one day late. One idiot left a 1-star rating on the Oasis 3 simply because it comes with a Micro USB rather than with a USB C port, even though that is clearly stated and really of little importance on an item that only needs to be charge once every few weeks. Another idiot gave it 1-star rating because the screen wasn't actually 7 inches. Apparently the moron didn't understand that the measurement is taken diagonally across the screen and not vertically or horizontally. And yes, I’ve seen plenty of 1-star ratings on all kinds of products because it shipped a day late or the shipping carrier dinged the box. So it probably is a good idea for Amazon to err on the side of estimating a longer delivery time than they think it will take.

By far the item most advertised in my inbox this year has been televisions.

TV's are dirt cheap because many of them have Fire TV OS or Roku on board or the manufacturers OS. These allow them to monetize the users, sell more ads, gather lots of info on viewer habits.

I prefer dumb old TV's that don't connect to the Internet, but it gets harder to find one every year because these subsidized TV's are taking over.

Thankfully TVs tend to last many years. I’m still using a Sony Bravia 40” I bought on BF 2008 (11 years ago) and it has no internet connection nor apps built in. But it still looks better than most of the new inexpensive smart TVs I’ve seen. I’ve got a 26” Visio smart TV in my study that is only 4 years old, the picture is okay but not great, and none of the built-in apps are worth a bleep! I have to use Fire TV and Roku boxes/dongles because those inexpensive smart TVs rarely, if ever, update their apps. Being a smart TV has no advantage if the manufacturer never updates the apps.

Got my 9th gen Fire 7 Tab a bit ago. I installed the Play Store and the apps I want. The speaker's nice and loud so that's a plus. I waited to see how much I like the tab before deciding on the case I'll use. So I'll be getting an OtterBox style case and it'll cost me half as much as I paid for the tablet. That's painful in terms of relative value, but I need the protection it'll provide as this tab will also be used outdoors.

I need to install a launcher. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks...

I always put Otterbox Defender cases on my iPhones and iPads, and I’ve never had one fail to protect my devices from a few nasty drops. Better safe than sorry when protecting expensive toys. Maybe less so for a cheap tablet, but at least it will be well protected and one less thing to worry about.

My Oasis 3 arrived a few minutes ago. For the first time I’m impressed by a Kindle with built-in light! Wow, way better than any Basic or Paperwhite model I’ve ever seen. This is what the first Paperwhite should have been like.

Aha! Now that you mention it, I think that most of the TVs I've seen on sale have been Roku-enabled.

My final BF purchase was just delivered. Cassie already laid claimed to it, just like she did the Oasis and its cover.


ETA: Wow that was easy to setup! I plugged it in and the Alexa app found it and set it up without any input from me.

Last year, maybe not. But certainly 2016 and 2017. No contracts.

My samsung 8" tablets battery appeared to be dying so I got one of the new Kindle fire hd 10. It nice that it has 32 gig internal storage as opposed to the old samsungs 16. I probably get a SD card for it eventually but for now I have plenty of space.
I lasted a day with the poor excuse for an app store that amazon has and installed google play. I am trying to resist the urge to change the launcher. Any issues with using a third party launcher on the fire? I probably eventually try Nova as I used it before on another non kindle tablet.

Amazon Prime Video -- a bunch of channels are 1/2 price for the first three months. Can't be a current subscriber. (But I'd just quit BritBox and was able to get it back again for 1/2 price. For three months. )
