Of course, removing Adobe DRM from a book is simple, but, you need to do two download steps first. And you want to use ADE 2.0.somethingorother. DRM removal from later versions isn't possibe.

As to what ADE reports, I don't know. I don't remember any discussions about it, one way or the other.
Hello Davidfor!
I have been using ADE for some time now, but I didn't know that version 2.0 also does DRM-removal.
I just checked and I have version 4.5 so I have to do three things:
when I buy a book from Bol or Kobo, I download it, I run it through ADE and then I let the program "epubsoft DRM-removal" do the rest.
If the DRM is not removed, my Kobo can read it, but if I want to pass a book on to my best friend, she cannot.

Do you mean to say that if I have ADE version 2.0 I can do both in one go? That would be great!

Hello Mathil!

I have a similar version of ADE, so I am curious how you go about it to remove the DRM from your books? I'm very much interested as it would save me extra work with yet another program.

Normally, if you buy a book from the Kobo website, conversion with ADE and DRM-removal shouldn't be necessary as you can easily load them into your Kobo device when syncing it, unless you would want to share an e-book with a friend.

Hello!
I have about the same version of ADE, so I am wondering how you go about it to remove the DRM with that programme.
If I buy a book from the Kobo site, I don't need ADE, but I need it in case I wish to send the book to a friend. Plus, I always used a separate program for DRM-removal.
It would be very useful to know how to do both in one program and save me a lot of time and work!

Thanks already for explaining that to me.

No, I mean exactly what I said. If you use ADE 2.0.1, then you can download the book and remove DRM later. If you use later version of ADE, you cannot remove the DRM. Or at least I haven't heard that you can.

So Kobo has gone to a different DRM for ADE? I am using ADE 4.5.x and am able to remove ADE DRM from books from other sources.

I also just tried an old purchase (re-downloaded it) with ADE 4.5. Before I strip the DRM, I can't read it with FBReader, after I strip the DRM, I can read it with FBReader.

There has been talk about ADE 4.x using a different DRM, but from what I've read (and just tried), it appears Kobo is using the older ADE DRM.

You are right. It depends on the server as well. I'm still using ADE 2.0.1, so don't know exactly what happens with the later versions.

It's not that they are using new unbroken DRM right now it's that they could. Basically by running a version of ADE of 3.0 or higher you are taking a risk.

It seems likely to me that if they switch the DRM, they would make it a requirement that you use ADE 4.5, and not support 2.0 anymore.

Yes, that will be the case. ADE 2.0 doesn't support the later versions of the DRM, so could not be used. If they decided to use the newer DRM, it is likely they will support both for a while.
