epub to epub

I know this seems like an odd thing to do, but nevertheless I tried it with an epub, and found the file size dropped, from 1571 kb to 1272 kb.

I wonder what happened, what may have been lost? gained?
Is this a generally good thing to do with all epubs?

epub to pdf conversion.

perhaps a dumb question for some, however:

pdf allows me to highlight, annotate, etc, and maintain that in the pdf file. It seems to remain on another device.

highlights don't remain part of a epub file? so that if it is moved to another device the highlights will be missing?

Is there anything that I lose by converting from epub to pdf?

Your output profile is set incorrectly so the images in the ePub have been resized to be smaller. Set the output profile to Tablet and try the conversion again with the original ePub.

indeed. changing output style to Tablet gave me a file size exactly the same as input.

It was using the default 'generic e-ink' which gave me the smaller file size.

I'll use 'default output profile' from now on? or use 'tablet'?

Use Tablet. Next thing to do is learn HTML/CSS and stop doing ePub to ePub as you'll be able to fix the code.
