It seems not dependant on a specfikc ebook. And it happens even if the only action on the first book is the save as action to make use of the saved file in another ebook.

I am having the same experience as Vroni. This happens when I close the window by clicking the red button in upper left corner. Also when I use File > Close or Shift-Command-W.
It happens on multiple epubs and also on a blank epub (i.e., if I open new blank epub and save the initial blank file (Section0001.xhtml). The only way to resolve this is to Quit Sigil altogether with Command-Q or menu equivalent. |

Wow that is exactly what I have been trying but I can not recreate the bug at all.
Seems strange that Some can reproduce it while I and others can not. I will try adding some debug statements to see if that shows us anything? Any chance you have anti-virus or other kernel extensions installed? |

What sort of Sigil window geometry is going on? Maximized? How about a screen-shot of the Sigil main window just before closing it to see what sort of widget/toolbar configuration is being used?

I have Sophos antivirus installed. I turned it off, and the problem persisted. I don't know what a kernal extension is ![]() Quote:
I thought maybe it might be my dual-monitor setup, so I disconnected external monitor and the problem persisted when using laptop display only. Screenshot of my Sigil window attached. It includes the "leftover" dialog box that persists after the individual file is saved. As you can see, it is also incomplete and unusable. |

I'm not using maximized windows (that would thwart the GUI), i'm not using an antivirus software and i do not know what a kernel extension is or how to install. No dual monitor setup. Screenshot of sigil main window attached.

Hmm perhaps we need the Find and Replace Window open to see the issue. I normally keep mine closed. I will try to recreate the issue that way.

F&R being open when Sigil is maximized on Windows often causes wild geometry issues (MainWindow dockwidgets) on Windows when relaunching Sigil. It's a bug I've been fighting for a while.

Just tried it with F&R open with no problems whatsoever. I go through the exact sequence of events described here:
1. Fire up Sigil with an empty epub 2. Highlight Section0001.xhtml in BookBrowser and invoke Save As via the context menu 3. The file save dialog comes up and I save the file under its default name (or a new name) 4. The save file dialog goes away 5. I close the Sigil window which does not exit the app, it is still running and can be clicked 6. I drag a new epub to the Sigil icon in the doc (or select it and use the File menu item to load a new epub 7. The new epub loads but no old file save dialog anyplace! I even move the new Window around to be sure it is not hidden underneath. I repeated this 10 times, and I am simply never getting an old file save dialog to come back in any way. So this is specific to your machines in some way. I am not even sure where to put debug statements to help track down why this is happening on your machine. If neither of you have added software that adds kernel extensions, then I am not sure what is going so. Would you both please try the following: Save all your work. Restart your mac and hold down the Shift key immediately after you hear the initial start-up tone. Then fire up Sigil and try your test one again after a clean "safe" reboot. Does the problem still happen? KevinH |

I re-started in Safe Mode. Unfortunately, the problem persists.
I also tried it with F&R closed, and that makes no difference. Problem occurs with F&R open or closed. Another thing I noticed as I play around with this bug is that the leftover dialog boxes accumulate if you keep repeating the process (they could be one on top of each other, so at first it appears that only the last dialog box persists, but if you move it, you find another one behind it). I did the following:

On a macOS double clicking on an existing epub will not close Sigil if it is already running. You are probably launching a different version of Sigil someplace when you do that!
Sigil remains running when you close the Window (even the last window) and you can see this by looking for the dot in the panel under your Sigil app. If you click once on the panel Sigil with the icon, you should see the top menubar show Sigil and have a File menu enabled to open a new epub. Dragging a new epub to that Sigil icon in the panel with the dot under it will just open a new Window in the existing version of Sigil just as using the File->Open menu would do. When you restart your mac, you should be hearing a startup tone indicated it passed its initial checks (assuming you have not turned your volume all the way down). If you do not, that indicates a system level problem. You might want to zap your parameter ram if this is the case to reset it to macOS norm. |

It sounds like you are running multiple instance of Sigil at the same time. This is not correct for a mac.
Please shutdown your machine making sure to uncheck the box to "reopen and restart" your applications. You might even have to flush your Application caches. Then startup your machine and only run single instance of Sigil and run the test once. Anytime after that the Sigil apps memeory will have been corrupted which can lead to very very odd behaviour. Searching the internet comes to another conclusion. Macs sold from 2016 have this turned off by a hidden system setting only accessible via command line / terminal.
