I most definitely do not agree with you on this.
I don't consider the Oasis the inferior device here. They're just different. The Libra has some wonderful features but the Oasis does as well. I guess it's a matter of taste.

Well, now, I'm curious

In what way is AZW3 layout not the same as Kepub layout? AFAIK, with 1 exception, the limitators of Kepub (forced minimum line height, no ligatures) are the same as AZW3.

(the exception is measurements in actually length, like 2 inch indents or margins. Kobo Kepub does not calculate DPI, and uses a fixed 'guess' based on resolutions from the 160 DPI days.)

In that regard, yes. I meant more like character and word spacing. The kepubs have very irregular spacing and huge gaps between words. Epub and azw3 on the Oasis are much better in that regard. The spacing between characters and words is much more regular. (I use full justification and no hyphenation, probably that's the reason. With left justification or hyphenation the difference is presumably negligible, but I cannot stand either, unfortunately).

More like moving from a Mercedes to a BMW. You really do discount Kindles in a ludicrous manner.

I have a Mercedes and a Chevy Volt. My 'Premier' Volt is nowhere near as luxurious as my Mercedes. On the other hand, I'm not spending sixty dollars in gas every two weeks either.

The layout is also inferior on the Oasis because it's similar to the layout of KePub which you say is inferior.

The oasis doesn't read ePub. KePub and KF8 are very similar. It's ePub on the Kobo where you get into the better typesetting.

Why are we using the word inferior at all? They're just different and some people like one and some people like the other. You can even like both.

I'm using "inferior" because that is the word that Sirtel used.

On the Kobo, KePub is similar to KF8 on the Kindle. One is not that different then the other.

Yes it is, and I explained why.

It's been like this for the last few days in a lot of threads. I'm not sure why. A few weeks ago I was thinking this was such a nice place where people respected each other's opinions without sniping at each other. But now it feels different in a lot of threads.

Well, people are still people and it's not aliens who are members here. Still, it's a lot better here than in some other forums I've visited. Also people can argue here, there are forums out there where you must toe the party line all the time. I don't like those kinds of extremes.

That's definitely true. It just feels like every thread has some sort of argument going on these days and I didn't feel that way before. Could be I'm just noticing it now since I haven't been here that long?

Oh by the way, I've decided to try one last Kobo Libra. It's arriving today. I'm not sure if my experience will be any better this time, but perhaps I can handle the lighting better now that it won't be my 'main' device (since I also read a lot on my Oasis). I can use the Libra to read during the day and the Oasis for in the dark?

Kobo just has so many features I like it's hard for me to write them off all together because I don't like the lighting.
