I prefer front-lit e-ink screens because I often read in public transport or outside. They're more easily readable in bright light and have less glare compared to LCD-screens. Therefore I find them more comfortable to read on.

Definitely prefer e-Ink with ambient light, i.e., prefer over front light or LCD. But that isn't the question. I didn't vote because I'm not clear whether the frontlit reader is more pleasant or the same for me as LCD.

Given a choice of eInk or LCD sitting right there in front of me, I will pick up the eInk device every time. Is that because LCD physical hurts my eyes? No. But there is something there that makes me choose eInk. I think it is the added stress and harshness I feel from LCD. It is subtle, and I can read from LCD for reasonable amounts of time if need be. I do not like the inherent reflective properties of LCD. Some LCD screens are certainly better than others, but none come even close to an eInk screen. I find that in some lighting situations that I have to reposition an LCD screen for best reading. I don't have to do that with eInk. So there could be an element of physical comfort in not having to hold the screen "just right" that makes eInk more appealing to me.

My best guess is that the stress and harshness of LCD is more tiring to my eyes over time, which is why I choose eInk. But I don't feel eye physical discomfort with either screen, if that's what you are getting at. Last edited by haertig; 10-29-2019 at 07:03 PM. |

I didn't vote because, even though e-ink is a bit easier on my eyes I prefer reading on my phone. The problem in voting is that even though the question just asks about how easy it is on my eyes that's not how most people will perceive the vote.

I'm not sure how you can be so certain you know how "most people" will perceive the vote, but I do envy your telepathy. For me, the question as written was clear and easy to vote on.

From the results thus far, not one single user has voted that LCD is easier on the eyes. There are a few ties between LCD and eInk (9), and the majority say eInk is easier on the eyes (33).

So, even though the poll is not complete, it's pretty reasonable to conclude at this point that while some people may prefer reading on an LCD, it is not because an LCD is easier on the eyes. There are other factors that make them choose LCD as their reading preference. |

Spend much of the rest of the day in front of an LCD. E-ink is easier on my eyes, a welcome break. I prefer to have my Kindle mostly lit by ambient light, however.

My best option - eInk with no front light with good room lighting - is not in the poll.

	I don't find much difference between front-lit E-Ink and LCD. |

I don't. If you read the OP's qualifying first post, and you read the three choices available, there's no doubt at all about how (or if) you should vote. The fact that options you might wish were present were not, does not change that fact.

It's pretty simple really. "In your experience, which (if either), of LCD or eink devices you've owned and read on, do you feel is the easiest on your eyes?" Easy-peasy lemon squeezy. |

If you are unhappy with this poll, start another thread. Please restrict your comments to your experiences with LCD/EInk. Thank you. |
