There is a patch. It's called "sleep mode"....

That phrase should have been on the first on: "None. My Kobo devices are good enough even without patches.". Especially as except for a few people who like playing, "I just want to read" applies to all of them. Most patches are being used to block something that gets in the way of reading, or make reading better. Once the patches are applied, it should allow the user to, "just read". If it doesn't, they should use different patches, or stop patching altogether.

And I'm definitely in the, "None. My Kobo devices are good enough even without patches." category. It should be obvious from my other activities that, "I just want to read", doesn't really apply. But, I do want to get the devices and books so when I am reading, that is all I am doing.
And yes, the 2other numbered answers are a mistake. You cannot have duplicated numbers as that makes the poll invalid. You don't know if the answers are int he correct place. Can the poll be wiped and started other without creating a new thread? If not, a new poll should be created without all the errors and the posts from here be moved there and this thread deleted?

Everyone is free to create their own poll, if they feel the need to start over. I'm certainly not going to request any such thing. Again, it's not a research project, that all the answers must be absolutely precise and correct. Anyone wants to do it more seriously, nothing's stopping you.

I answered 1 to 5. My kobo device is good enough even without patches. But I did install one, so I could use the font size slider with all fonts. Good enough doesn't mean perfect!

I jumped on the patch train when the patch to make both Forma buttons go next came out. I love the flexibility to hold the forma in portrait or landscape held with either hand. This patch is essential to me.
I also use the reduce header and footer height patch.

There are detailed descriptions there what the individual patches do.
I see detailed descriptions of what two patches do there. Where are descriptions of the rest?

Have a look at the firmware patching thread. You can find the links to download the patches and you can read the patch files and read the descriptions. Any questions you have can be asked in the patch thread. But before you ask any questions, please read the entire thread.

I would love to, but seem to be too stupid for it. I've gone through the steps three times now and nothing changed on my Forma.

Well, at least it is a brand new Forma, patches or not

Do you load the .yaml files in a text editor and change the no to yes and when you run the .bat file to generate,do you see the KoboRoot.tgz file with the correct time/date?

Change no to yes...

Yes, Jon, I opened them in Notepad and changed the ones I wanted. Then double clicked on the batch file, but it didn't generate the .tgz file in the out folder.

Another thing I found unclear is: Am I supposed to put the firmware into the src folder zipped or unzipped?

Thank you for your help!

the firmware is meant to go into the src folder zipped unaltered from how it was downloaded.
