[IOS] v2.0.0 iOS issues

Like the idea of a list. Long press on title or book cover does bring up choices for me (air drop, Marvin, kindle, books, etc) on my iPad and iPhone and a quick tap takes me to metadata. Might have to try more than once on my phone because it seems that it wants me to be more precise in the pressure I use for long and short ��

I like to go to home page and use AZ up/down to sort by date added to Calibre. That is not working for me. In this app every book shows it was added to Calibre the day you add it to CC. However, the info in meta data shows correctly. Date added to CC is working correctly.

You're right, long press works. I guess I wasn't pressing hard enough or long enough.

Given that the devs area already "encouraging" us to go over to Trello for posting bugs I don't see that adding yet another place for it is a good idea.

I for one am not signing up over there. mobileread is where Calibre discussions, bug reports, etc. are. The only reason I see to have anything on Atlassian's proprietary servers is information (read: spin) control.

So, I have three buggy behaviors to report and I think this will be my last on this whole thing because I'll be unwatching the thread after I hit the button.

1. CC crashes when transferring files larger than about 500MB like some of the recent Bloom County Humble Bundle volumes.

2. CC gets consistently crash-prone once it starts crashing on large books. Open a book, switch back to CC, crash. Open a book, switch back to CC, crash. Uninstalling the app and reinstalling provides a temporary fix but it starts crashing again after the next failed transfer.

3. CC is presented as an option in the file picker (browse -> locations) but throws errors when selected.

Lets just wait and see what improvements get made by Sam and his team. I can't complain about paying some kind of subscription; I've used Calibre and CC for years at no cost and I think it's unreasonable to expect a high level of service, which we have had, to continue for free.

If CC on Apple turns out crap then fair enough but if the problems get fixed and improvements continue to get made then $.99 a month is well worth it.

Give Sam and his team a chance to get CC sorted then decide if the subscription model is worth it to you or not.

My heart sank reading how upset people are about losing their books. I should have realized how important this was. I keep such a small library it didn’t matter to me when I lost the books I simply redownloaded them.

The subscription model is sort of a negligible price and is only going to be $.99 a month which is less than a can of soda from a vending machine. I think this is very reasonable and most will end up joining us.

We are doing our best to right our wrongs. We cannot currently roll back to the old version because the old version is from Xcode 9 so apple has rejected it.

Let me know if there is anything we can do to make things right.

I’ve not been around lately and i’ve Just updated and lost all my books, over 5500 records. I use (or should I say used) to use CC as a reference tool as I have a very big Calibre library. I only sent txt files, metadata, not actual books. I’m sorry but $12 a year isn’t worth it for a reference ability. I wish you luck in your endeavours but I won’t be paying.

I just hit this problem! And CC won’t sign into Dropbox, so unless I’m next to my computer, I can’t see any of my books! Are there plans to make the Dropbox sign in work again? Without that, the app really doesn’t do anything.

Since this thread is talking about the new version of CC for Apple devices, what problem are you talking about?

Sorry, I should have given more information.

I’m running CC v2.0.0 on iOS 13.1.2 on an iPad. When I try to connect to Dropbox, I get a web login page rather than the connection via the app which seems more common now, but because the login requires a reCAPTCHA, which isn’t actually displayed, the login never completes.

I did also try connecting as a wireless device, but it only picked up two of my 800+ books.

I generally prefer the Dropbox connection because for me, the point of having CC on an iOS device is to be able to connect when I’m not near my computer.

I too lost my libraries when the update came - both on my iPad and my iPhone - over 3100 books. I came across this thread when I discovered the search function was totally useless. I can search by author but when I try to search by title it won't even return a book I can actually see when I type in the title.

One book would never transfer over. It is one of the largest and had transferred before.

The way I look at it, you destroyed a perfectly good program and erased my data with an update that you knew would erase my data, leaving me with a program that does not work correctly either in the search function or the transfer function, and now you want me to pay you money in exchange for a promise to make things better?

Yeah, right.

The way I look at it, the developer should pay me money for the time I spent reinstalling 3100+ books on two devices.

Just an update after some more exploring in CC:

1. The sort by date added to Calibre in not working. The books are sorted by the date they were added to CC in both the sort by date added to Calibre and sort by date added to CC.

2. When I first opened CC today and checked Tags for the first time since the update there were no Tags in CC. After connecting back to Calibre there are more tags but the totals are off. A Tag that has 694 books in Calibre has 106 books in CC.

3. According to Calibre there are 3127 in CC on my iPad. According to CC, there are only 2581 in CC on my iPad. What's up with the missing almost 600 books - are they not in CC or are they in CC and CC just doesn't count them? When I first turned CC on today it told me I only had one book. After connecting wirelessly back to Calibre the total in CC rose to 3127 but where are the other hundreds of books?

I don't mind paying a subscription fee, although I think it should be waived for people who bought the program before. But I refuse to pay any kind of fee until I am shown that the new people can actually make the program work again.

The cynical part of me says that they screwed the program up on purpose to force us to subscribe. I did not have apps set to update automatically but some iOS update must have changed that. I wish I had caught that before CC updated because I have always been hesitant to update things right after the update comes out.

This is rather shocking to me. I'm assuming that no one asked permission from the mobileread admins to link to this forum as an official tech support site.

My experience has been a little different - I'm not having any problems reconnecting to dropbox. I did have all of my books deleted with the update, but that was almost helpful. I use CC as a method to grab books that aren't in my Kindle library, and pay little to no attention to the books stored within the app. This ended up being cleanup to me, and no hassle at all. Books are small enough to download over a cellular connection if I need to, so I'm fine using dropbox as my library and my CC as a temporary staging area to download my books. It's interesting to me that so many people rely on having their whole library stored on their devices.

Switching to a subscription method after I paid for the app definitely makes me grumpy though.

I'm a picky reader. I tried the route where I moved only a book or two over to my iPad at a time but then sometimes the ones that I had moved did not appeal to me at the time. Moving them all gave me more choice.

When I am in the App store on my iPad, there is also a link for support and when you click it, you are taken to MobileRead forums.

By the way, I did some more checking. On my iPhone, the tags have all their correct numbers of books and when I sort the books by Calibre date, they are sorted by the actual Calibre date instead of the CC date like the iPad.

The search is screwed up on the phone though too.

I'm not sure how well that would work. If anything, it'd be the opposite. I can only speak for myself, but after the way this has been handled, I'm 99% sure I won't even consider subscribing.

The new owner has been pretty much absent. Seems to me a bit of hubris to link here, when the owner has just 17 posts, and hasn't posted in almost 3 weeks.

Your assumption is incorrect. I was the CC Android dev until recently. Several years ago I asked for and received that permission for Android and iOS, which is why there is a separate CC forum. You may have issues with the new CC dev (Sam), but don't manufacture new ones from whole cloth.
