^^I thought this was terrific. The narration by Bronson Pinchot, which is WhisperSync-priced, is also excellent.

John Steinbeck's Cannery Row has dropped to £0.99 today at Kindle UK as part of the Daily Deal. I grew up in the Monterey/Carmel/Pacific Grove area, so I like this book even a little bit more than I would anyway - it's fun to really know the area while reading it. (Although East of Eden still is my Steinbeck favorite.)

If you're a Wodehouse/Bertie/Jeeves fan (how can you not be?), here's a continuation in the series that says in the blurb that it has been authorized by the Wodehouse estate, and has 4.3 stars on 83 reviews at Amazon US, which is not too bad. It also has 4.15 stars at Goodreads, which is a little bit tougher crowd and so is also not too bad.
Anyway, Jeeves and the King of Clubs: A Novel in Homage to P.G. Wodehouse, by Ben Schott, has dropped to $3.99 at Kindle and Kobo US, This is not a super great price, but it has been sitting at $13.99 since it was published and it's (barely) less than one-year-old, so it's not a horrible price either. Savage Coast, Muriel Rukeyser's autobiographical novel of her experiences reporting the Spanish Civil War, was rejected by contemporary publishers and issued some 75 years later. Currently $1.99 at Amazon:

Waterland by Graham Swift is $1.99 at Amazon US.
I originally read the book 20+ years ago for a modern lit class and loved it. I think I'll have to give it a re-read. Quote:

Today's 'Big Deal' at Amazon UK is most of the Tudor Court novels by Philippa Gregory at £0.99 each.
I've had my eye on these for a while as something that I would probably like. Has anyone read them? Are they good? Are they historically accurate? |
