I know that the urine on a jellyfish sting is considered to be an old wives tale that some studies have disproved, but other studies support .... but then, moldy bread was out there in old wive's tale land until someone discovered penicillin.

I've been on the beach, and I've been stung. And, yup ... a friend peed on my foot. And, it did feel better ... so who knows?? But, I'll guarantee you it wasn't because my friend's pee was sterile.

When I took a tour of Pompey they pointed out that the public laundry was right beside the public restrooms as the ammonia was used to clean the clothes.

I've been to Pompei. Interesting place .... but yes, chemicals in urine and even fecal chemicals can be pretty damn handy. There's a reason that people have been using excrement to replenish nutrients in soil for centuries. Mainly ... it works.

Really .... aside from the fact that they smell a bit nasty, and there are strong cultural prohibitions from being around them, both urine and feces, whether human or animal, are just a bunch of chemicals and bacteria. I can't tell you how many times I've been covered in both (I've been around more than one centrifuge explosion in my life), and .... well, you get over it.

Oh man .... I just remembered about the patient that we got, I think it was at UCLA, this would have been close to 30 years ago, but the poor girl kept having these awful E-coli infections of her sinuses. It turned out that she slept in the nude and in her sleep she was scratching her butt and then picking her nose.

I felt so sorry for her. The only thing we could suggest in the end was that she sleep in pants with a belt tight enough that she couldn't get her hands down where the E-coli tend to hang out.

When in Rx school (PharmD) some 25ish years ago, it was taught that the nitrogen, well nitrates, in urine was the key to neutralizing the component of the jellyfish which caused the sting.
Still it is only a quick fix and medical attention is a good idea.

I have a friend whose mother would put a few drops of his urine in his ear when he had an earache.
And I've known people who would wash their hair with their own urine. Supposedly it makes it nice and shiny.

On topic: I've already gotten rid of most of the books I can bear to part with, so the trade-in wouldn't be a huge bonanza for me, but I could do it occasionally.

Open up the Kindle. Allow it to view Mobipocket with DRM. Then this issue with Kindlepid and Kindlefix won't be an issue.

Thats just disgusting!

Vinegar is what people used to rinse their hair with....just a tablespoon in a glass of water to the final rinse....The smell goes away as soon as the hair is dry.
