For the slippery back, I use a case. I found the wider screen of the Forma made the centre of gravity to rest more towards the end of my pointer finger, while the similarly weighted but more compact Libra has it closer to the center of my hand.
Weight matters, but so does size. I'd possibly have gone Forma I'd it'd been cheaper and a bit smaller and didn't have the power button in my palm. But I like the Forma more than the more expensive Aura One and current Forma. Last edited by Haesslich; 10-02-2019 at 06:28 PM. |

Personally I don't find the Libra slippery at all. But then I'm coming from the Oasis, the most slippery eink reader ever invented.
![]() True, my Nook with its rubbery plastic is the least slippery of them all. But it also feels somehow cheaper than the Libra, even though it's not. The Libra has no cheap vibe at all. |

Unfortunately, she now seems to be trying to buy the perfect pair of boots. She tells me she has an unusual foot size and shape, and has trouble finding a perfect fit. Of course, as I bought a Libra H2O last weekend, I'm just waiting for her to return from visiting her mum and ask about it. Somehow I don't think she'll buy, "I bought it for you as I thought your Forma was to big for your handbag." Anyone have any better suggestions? |

No Reader is slippery. None of them. There is not a single slipper Reader. Why is that? Because they should all be in a case which will make every single Reader easier to hold.

And before you get on your rant about them preventing screen damage, I can guarantee you I’ve handled more ereaders than most of this forum. Statistically cases have not made a difference in broken screens. Save maybe a hardshell case with padding though those cases tend not to be popular since they add significant weight and bulk to the reader. |

And I've probably handled (and dropped) about as many devices as you since I've been using them from when Sony first brought them to NA as the Libre. And I'd argue that if you need a case to stop a reader from being slippery... well, it means the damned thing is slippery. I had to stick a DecalGirl sticker on the back of my Aura HD as the plain plastic was a pain in the ass to keep a grip on, even with the weird angular shape. The official cover had the same plastic back, so it did NOT help grip... and I transferred the sticker to the case to add some texture. Last edited by Haesslich; 10-05-2019 at 12:15 PM. |

I’m not saying people shouldn’t use cases, nor that cases aren’t without benefits. However Jon has a history of insisting that they are absolutely required or you will break if you don’t use them. I’ve also been a fan of Decalgirl skins to make the various readers I’ve owned a bit more grippy but also to hide the branding. Which is something Kobo does fairly well compared to other companies in terms of making it subtle. I just don’t want any branding to be visible on my devices. If I like the product I’ll gladly sing its praises on my own. |

I've yet to meet a design as well thought out since - the current Kobo ones (since the Aura H20) fit into the cover in such a way that they do nothing for shock. They're there to keep the screen from being poked and broken that way. And that is what cases are for preventing - the substrate may break in any fall, but getting jabbed by a sharp corner WILL break it, period. As for branding? That was always the worst in the Kindles - Kobo has he logo on the front, and that's been it for the most part, save the one on the back of the Aura HD. My main reason to use DG skins went away when the Glo introduced the soft touch coating to the line, however. But with the low smooth plastic texture of the Libra not being sufficiently countered by the dots, I'm starting to think about another DG skin. That vinyl doesn't add a LOT of grip, but it did add enough. |

Egads, I drove all the way to the Walmart SuperCenter to compare the Libra and Forma. Alas, they don't carry them.
Back to the drawing board! |

Gosh if only you had called ahead to ask about the return policy and picking one up. Imagine the time you could have saved.

m, you are certainly a dedicated moderator, but it's hard to figure out your objective(s).
I went over to compare the two ereaders, not pick up one or the other. This is a SuperCenter in an upscale part of town so it never occurred to me that they wouldn't have demos. I guess hands-on comparison is not possible so I'll just have to trail-blaze. |

Every post I’ve made to you on this subject would have saved you time. It’s almost like I don’t want you to waste time with things that have already been covered. Buy one of them from Walmart if she doesn’t like it return it for the other if she thinks she’d like that more since any surprise would be out of the bag by then. |
